BOL updated this morning. ☺
I’ve seen higher GPAs, typically 3.4 and above, so you’re just barely meeting the GPA requirements. However, I’ve also seen people get accepted with a 42 OAR or higher, but they usually had a GPA of 3.5 or above. Having a STEM degree and multiple certifications is a big advantage, so hopefully, you also have relevant work experience with leadership. From what I understand, the board places significant weight on GPA, OAR, and a STEM degree for IWC selection.Looking for some feedback. 35 years old. Plan on Applying Crypto ,no service exp
BA in Computer Science , Network Operations and security 3.0 GPA
47 OAR.
7 certs CompTIA A+,Network+, Sec+, Project+, Cloud+ and CySa+. ITIL Foundations.
3 LORs O6 E8 E9.
Had a medical waiver approved, allergies
How strong is this. Any feedback?
The jury is out on whether certifications have ANY value for an IWC package. Consider that the program authorizations make no mention of certifications, only experience.Having a STEM degree and multiple certifications is a big advantage,
Yes the board will tell you that after you’ve applied so many times. They aren’t going to accept you for some reason and they are letting know to not waste your time.My recruiter called me and I didnt get selected for MCWO or IP. On top of that, he told me that I got a "Do Not Apply" attached to my name as well for these two programs and I cant reapply, he doesnt know why. Has anyone ever heard of that?
My stats:
B.S Information Systems
M.S Applied Information Technology
7 years IT work experience
Certs: Security +, Security X
OAR: 45 - waiver
There are several reasons you could get that tag, GPA or age are two that are top of mind.My recruiter called me and I didnt get selected for MCWO or IP. Certifications are really only important for DCO IWC, OCS they don't expect you to have anything but a good foundation which is good degree and GPA.I’ve seen higher GPAs, typically 3.4 and above, so you’re just barely meeting the GPA requirements. If you’ve already submitted your package and it gets rejected, you can retake the OAR to improve your chances. If you do get rejected consider reapplying at the end of the year to align with the start of the fiscal year, as selection tends to be more easier when quotas reset.
Some people are telling me they don’t know what the board looks for as they’ve seen people with less get accepted and also with more get rejected. Some people say pick a less competitive community as a backup. My School, WGU doesn’t give letter grades so every passed class is a 3.0. I’m married with kids and a full time job so I’m trying to do everything I can to help my chances.I’ve seen higher GPAs, typically 3.4 and above, so you’re just barely meeting the GPA requirements. I Have not submitted yet. I have a few months till I’m able. Looking to make it as compelling as I’m able. Married with kids. I go to WGU and don’t have an opportunity to make my gpa higher and all passed classes are 3.0 .I’ve seen higher GPAs, typically 3.4 and above, so you’re just barely meeting the GPA requirements. IWC used to put out all the stats for those selected and over decades there were a few common factors. IWC excluding Intel would pick about 90% with STEM degrees or in some cases those that had at least the Calc and Calc based physics series done, Intel is more open to non tech degrees, the average GPA of those selected was 3.5 give or take .1 on the GPA.Some people are telling me they don’t know what the board looks for as they’ve seen people with less get accepted and also with more get rejected. Is it safe to surmise, that I’m okay going crypto. I have a Stem Degree. OAR was 47. GPA is 3.0 because I can’t make it any higher. Unsure how they will interpret that. Sounds as if I need to get as much LOR and EXP as I can. Idk if my age of 35 is a factor.IWC used to put out all the stats for those selected and over decades there were a few common factors. Yes there will people picked up that have a lower GPA just like there are those with a higher GPA picked up, those are the averages. Some of those with higher GPA's declined had non-medical waivers and the board limits how many of those are selected, there are also ones with higher GPA's with waivers that are drug/legal/moral the board just won't pick up, often people don't publicly air that personal info.
OAR tends to follow GPA for those recently in college, sure the OAR can get you a chance to apply again but the OAR is low on the list of their priorities, the GPA and degree are much more important, I had an fellow OR I worked with who was in the IWC field and knew people who had sat the board, what she was told by them was look at the stats put out and when asked about the OAR she was told they didn't pay attention to it, now at the time the OAR was go or no go there was no waiver, so I would believe now if you have a waiver for the OAR it will get attention but not in the positive way.
I have had a few applicants that have had a grading system like you, those for SWO and aviation it appeared to have no effect, for others it did seem to have an affect. Is it safe to surmise, that I’m okay going crypto.
