Btw, I'm looking it a Sept. OCS class date, not the warmest time of year...
Actually, September and October are quite nice there in Newport. Lower humidity and comfortable temperatures.

My recruiter told me last week that my class date is 14 July 2007. I don't understand why the Navy would assign people to classes that don't exist. My guess is that they have not yet updated "the system" and July candidates will be rescheduled. I either way I just want to know one way or another.

Me: Mom! I was accepted into OCS!
Mom: Really? That's great! When do you leave?
Me: July 14 I think... But I think it might be canceled... I don't know yet.
Mom: Well, when will you know?
Me: I'm not sure... Nobody really knows...
Mom: Well, have you signed anything?
Me: Not yet...
Mom: But you're in the Navy?
Me: Yeah!
Mom: How do you know?
Me: My recruiter told me in an email...

I'm starting to get tired of always being in the dark... I guess I will have to get used to the bureaucratic process.:icon_tong

Wink, what do you think the last classes in OCS will do when there are no new classes to work with at OCS? I know, I know, I have heard everything can change. My recruiter told me that in the past classes have done community service projects in place of other stuff. What is your opinion on the matter?

Well maybe it wont be as miserable as I was expecting. I figured it would be fairly cold starting Sept. or so, glad to hear I'm wrong. Thanks.

I dunno. The candio phase is supposed to be the leadership lab. You get to actually give military orders and exercise the chain of command as a leader vis petitioner of seniors. No amount of community service will replace giving a direct military order and then standing by to take responsibility for it. Somehow, painting over graffiti, helping disadvantaged kids learn to read or slinging a hammer for Habitat for Humanity doesn't seem to meet the training objectives. Guess it is a necessity. But those candidates will be shorted on training.

I would say that with the exception of the Indoc staff, very little of the leadership COC practice one gets as a Candi-O involves the junior classes.

Yeah, being from the Northeast I can say the fall is actually really nice. I typically made it through the fall semester (Sep - Dec) without having to break out the winter coat...it's Jan - Apr when winter hits. It's depressing going on spring break when there's snow outside and it's cold as shit.

sigh Obviously another change from the AOCS of the 70's and early 80's. Like I said, a perpetual slide. Never mind me. My son told me today I don't know what I am talking about.:icon_cry:

The switch is official. My recruiter just informed me that my class date changed to 18 August 2007 (from 14 July). I'm happy as long as I graduate before 29 December (my wedding date:icon_mi_1), though it no longer looks like I will have a chance to squeeze in API this year.

My leadership in Candio phase involved keeping the TP stocked, and appeasing Senior Chief Lucas' wants. Mostly revolving around keeping the laundry machines functional.

Candio phase, not so much on the leadership for the 1-2 bars.

Senior Lucas' displeasure with my inablilty to fix washing machines with a pocket knife was demonstrated with a personal 1 hour SUYA session. Daily.
