OCS Moving back to Rhode Island?

The final word: OCS moves to Newport at the end of this fiscal year. Drill Instructors are moving along with OCS to help maintain the current "culture". No, many of the facilities are not ready or adequate at this time. Yes, Newport gets cold as b-lls in the winter, which will have some significant impact on training (since there are no adequate PT facilities, do we just cancel the PFAs during winter months?). Yes, there used to be an OCS in Newport (for the boat guys, supply, etc), and AOCS in P-cola for aviator types. AOCS was real training, Newport OCS was pretty much a knife and fork school (this is word of mouth from the current OTCP CO and OCS Dept head; both went through Newport and neither even remember any of the training there). What OCS will be in another year or two remains to be seen, but I can promise you, it WON'T be your daddy's OCS. There is still some discussion going on, but it's possible the last class will graduate early since there are no underclassmen to help train.

Of course, we still have quite a few months before they need to be

No adequate PT facilities? Are you kidding me? What kind of "facilities" do you need in order to have an adequate level of intense PT? There's plenty of places to run, both on the road and off, 1 large gymnasium (near where they'll be) for calisthenics if it's too cold or wet outside, a gym across the bridge for more calisthenics or lifting weights/cardio. No, the PFA's don't get canceled during the winter months. There's really no need to.

I reported to API there the last week of January. We PT'd outside at least three days a week. It was cold...BFD.

On a side note, I got my scuba diving certification and did my open water dives there....in March. My water temps were in the high 20's:eek:

Very true!! The old OCS was total B.S. We love to give SWOs crap around here, but the guality of the Surface Navy and SWOs in particular is way better then anything in I observed in the '70s and most of the '80s. I believe this is, in part, because of the change in the OCS program after it colacated with AOCS. The former OCS was just unacceptable and that is what I fear for the future. I can only hope guys like flynavyp3 prevent that.

Rough week, Steve? Need a virtual hug?

Maybe I need to add a sarcasm meter in my signature so some you slow kids don't take everything so seriously. This is AW's after all, not some realistic movie like Crimson Tide.

Hey hey hey...from the horses mouth here Steve...
Ok everybody, let's settle down. We all know that Crimson Tide was just a movie, make believe if you will, and that Airwarriors is the real deal.

;) :D I looked for the kisses and hugs smiley but couldn't find it.

So what's your point? Are you trying to say that Crimson Tide is the read deal?
