From a current OCS insider:

OCS in Pensacola is closing its doors at the end of this fiscal year. The last class in Pensacola is scheduled to start 01 JUL 07 and graduate 21 SEP 07; the first Newport class is scheduled to start 19 AUG 07 and graduate 09 NOV 07. NO class will start in P-cola and then transfer to RI. The LDO/CWO and DCO courses started in Newport last month (JAN 07), with the goal to eventually have all officer accessions (except academy/ROTC) in one location. When LDO/CWO and DCO started in RI they also started a new training regimen that is more, ah, rigorous (yeah, that's a good word for it). DIs will be a part of OCS Newport; some DIs that are here now will be transferring up there, others will get assigned there directly, and RADM Lotring voiced his desire for two MORE DIs to be added once OCS moves. If you have any other questions about OCS, just ask.

I know I know. Not another "my recruiter told me" line, but my recruiter assured me I'd be in RI this June. I am not excited about the tail end of my OCS vacation being in a cold fall, but I guess I have to be excited about not having to see the trashy girls of southern Alabama ... err.. Pensacola.

When was the last time you were actually in Pensacola and exactly how hard was it for you to fend off these "trashy" girls? I am absolutely positive that once you have spent some time getting the could shoulder from the WASPS up in bars in Rhode Island (are you 21 even?) that you will really wish for some Southern ladies to talk to. Or is there a secret society of engineer Groupies in the Northeast that I have never heard of? Perhaps they will be enamoured with stories of the new fetzer valve they are using on the space shuttles rocket boosters.

Man, to be a fly on the wall when you show up to OCS. I am sure that the Brown Shoes at API on this board have clued in the Class officers across the street about who's coming to town.

His DI was tough, and will be there as one of the first DIs in RI.

While it's true most everyone (except for me) will say their DI was the toughest (mine wasn't...he was instead the most cerebral and overall effective DI at OCS, currently, IMHO), if the class this Ensign graduated with was 07-07, I will vouch for his claim that he had the toughest DI at OCS, circa now...and probably so will anyone who has been through OCS recently who is on here.

If he had the DI I am thinking of, he had the DI who is known as sort of the "current/new Roquemore." And yes, Roquemore's legend/legacy lives on still at OCS in the form of all the class T-shirts bearing substantial amounts of reference to him and his brand of hard-ass hanging on the walls of the P-ways in Batt I and II.

what about classes that are supposed to start in between those dates? Last I had heard was that my date was July 14. Possibly I've been shifted to another class and need to ask my recruiter.

When you get your orders, you'll know where to go. Until then, can everyone please stop wigging out about it? Please?

All I know is it really won't matter much where we go. Would I rather get kicked in the nuts in florida than RI? Yes, but I'm still going to get kicked in the nuts so the location doesn't really matter that much.

Great post! That's no joke about the chicks up in the Newport bars. Though I always did have pretty good luck in Providence (pre-married days).

I've been through 3 summers in RI and not one of them was is a cool spring in June. No, in fact it can get downright hot, humid, and miserable even more so than in Florida.

Of course OCS would move to stuck up wasp-ville when tiz84 gets a class date. Anything else would just be too fair.

All classes between 01 July (in P-cola) and 19 Aug (in RI) have been cancelled. If you have a report date in between there, you will be re-scheduled. Although odds are you will be pushed back (to RI), prepare as if you will be coming to P-cola early; it's always better to be prepared early and not need it than to procrastinate and get sent here early, leaving you unprepared. (I had a female a few classes ago that got 5 days notice)

Oh great. If what you say ends up being true (no offense, things could still change) I could get a good 4 months of E-5 pay while not doing a single thing but drink.
