October 08 boards

Final Select NFO
I'm in for the OCT SWO/SNA/NFO board as well. Talked to the OR a week or so ago when I was in Lansing filling out the medical questionare for MEPS.

Oh ok, well then I guess you and I could still make it in. Technically they take packages up until the day before the board (or so i'm told), but that is only if the board hasn't filled by then.

And I asked my recruiter about the digital submission, and he confirmed that he scans it all up as well, and then it goes up through a few processors before it reaches the board. I don't know how long that really takes, but they don't meet for about another week. So I guess it's possible, but not probable.

Wrong. All packages must be received (not just sent, although it should be instantaneous since it is a digital (ie. email) submission) before the last day of the month preceding the month of the board you are applying for. To be considered for October SNA board you would have had to send your package in by the last day in September.

Who's your source, because my OR just told me this today and I thought I recalled people in previous boards having their package reviewed even though it was sent a few days later. I could be wrong, but I trust my recruiter knows what he's talking about.

Package sent off Sept 10th, first time... Applied for STA-21 twice but had to finish my degree on my own. Assuming I'm up for the Oct board

30 years old, just over 3 years in as nuclear machinist mate. Made 2nd class in under 2 years.

Applying for Supply, SWO, and NFO.

Interviews with O-4 supply, O-4select SWO, O-4 sub nuke. All great write ups.

CO interview was great, great write up.

B.S. in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Excelsior College with most course work completed at Auburn University. 3.0 GPA. (big negative is bad grades the first go around at Auburn). Accepted into graduate school for MBA.

OAR: 62 7/7/8 ASTB: 99 ACT: 30

Last 3 PRT's: Outstanding medium, outstanding low, outstanding low

LOR's: Current civilian boss, professor, retired SWO O-5.

Active in command athletic events, volunteering, section MWR rep., etc.

All in all I think I have a great package vice the crappy grades before enlisting and being 30. Hoping for the best. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Before Friday

My recruiter mentioned to me that I should know no later than this Friday if I made the board... so it should be any day now. I should concentrate less on this and more on medical issues...

NROTC Applicant

Could anyone shed some light on my chances of being selected in a later board if I was deferred from the August board?

White Male
I have lived in four countries, USA, Kenya, Cambodia and Tanzania and am currently a senior at an International School in Tanzania
SAT: 800 math/730 critical reading with 710 in writing
Grades range in the A's and B's with mostly A's though.
Senior schedule: IB Program, HL Math, HL Physics, HL Economics and SL Chemistry, SL English, ab initio Spanish and Theory of Knowledge
Major: Interested in some form of engineering
Sports: 4 years Varsity Basketball, 2 years Varsity Soccer and Volleyball. Voted most improved player in Volleyball. I would consider myself in good physical condition.
EC's: Chairman of a community service for an orphanage, 2 MUN conferences, THIMUN in the Hague and TAIMUN in Taiwan. I was ambassador for the THIMUN Conference. Peer Tutor, Senior MUN Advisor. Also participated in various community service programs from Habitat for Humanity to Operation Smile.
Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout with Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. I was also nominated in August for the BSA Heroism Award.
I would like to either be a Naval or Marine Officer but still undecided a bit between the two.
Thank You

My source is also my recruiter, so perhaps there are regional differences, though I doubt it. We'll both find out soon enough anyway.

You have a good resume (lots of sports, extra curricular activities, good grades, etc) but you haven't supplied any ASTB scores, LOR's, PRT. We also don't know if you have any prior military experience or a criminal history. A lot more goes into the consideration of an officer candidate than a good high school and college record. It's too early to say yes or no, but it looks like you're on the right track. Best of luck.:icon_wink

I do not have any prior military experience and also have no immediate relatives who have served in the military. I also did not take the ASTB. Would that serve as a disadvantage in getting the scholarship? My letters of reference came from my math teacher, and my MUN advisor.
Thanks for the help

You are going for an NROTC scholarship right? So you wouldn't take the ASTB until you have been in for awhile, I would imagine Junior year or so. Since you only have 3 attempts, I would recommend that you do not take it anytime soon.

Any NROTC guys out there that have already been through the process? Those are the guys you want to talk to, try PMing midn09, he is currently in the Program and would know more. I will try to point this post out to him.

ROTC kid here. You're posting in a OCS thread...ROTC and OCS are two different beasts. Post any specific questions in the NROTC forum.

If you're in ROTC, you usually take the ASTB in your sophomore year or later- don't take it now!

The beavers and the dudes wearing condoms on their heads: the athiest assosiation allience vs the federal association of athiests, or something like that. Was very funny, though my favorite multi-episode one was the imaginationland 3 parter. I just got that on Dvr

Back on topic, I missed the Oct boards (PRT...long story). No need for my stats here afterall. Man, I hope I can still make November; I think I can since so far the quotas haven't been in the way for Oct's applicants. I shall see soon enough.

Who's gonna start the November boards thread?

you can wait for someone to do it... or you can spearhead it yourself. The list should be out by now, or hopefully everyone will know this week if they are October or not. There are enough people to start it... just my opinion.

Is the pilot list out yet? I don't want to nag my recruiter, but I'm anxious to see if he got it submitted in time.
Bull, what went wrong? You don't need a completed PRT to submit (unless your OR has his own personal reqs).
