Hey I may be wrong but if your BDCP and your NPQ for flight, then are you sure your allowed to leave. From my understanding you were obligated to the service and were only released if you were med. disqualified from the service.

BDCP Service agreement:
Section 1 D

That, in the event I fail to complete satisfactorily the requirements to commissioned grade for any reason other than physical or request disenrollment from the BDCP, I will be administratively reduced to the paygrade E-3 and will normally be required to complete recruit training and serve 24 months in an enlisted status. Enlisted active duty will normally commence within 60 days of disenrollment.

Section 1 E

That upon completion of my degree requirements, if I am found to be not physically qualified dor a previously approved designator, I shall submit a change of designator request to Commander, Navy Recruiting Command, who will consider the request and reassign me to training for an available designator. I understand that my new designator may require a different term of obligated service. It is further understood that I may elect to either accecpt training under this new designator or to disenroll(see subparagraph 1)d) with reguards to disenrollment)

Basically you can leave but you still owe the navy 2 years as an E-3

so do you think Jim's recruiter was lying to him??? i know i dont trust my recruiter because he either doesn't know the truth or he straight up lies to me on some issues

I'd be hesitant to call someone a liar without knowing them. However I'd definately say they were wrong as my post is right from the contract I have in my hand, and my recruiter confirmed my understanding of it when I signed all my documents. Perhaps his recruiter simply doesn't understand the contract or is simply speculating. It's not like the recruiters are taught every detail, and contracts are at times tedious. Also from what I understand there can be no other BDCP contracts as the government is quite standard with these things. So main thing is if your BDCP you own the navy time unless your Disqualified from any military service. Read your contracts...read your contracts...and read your contracts. The thing that scares me is, most of the people on here are college grads, or in school, imagine how many times some poor enlisted guy gets screwed because he doesn't understand the wording.

After reading the contract statement, i now realize that it contradicts itself, first it says if i fail to be commisioned ***for any reason other than medical*** i have to give 2 years, then the next part says that if I DOR then i can redesignate or get out and then see the section above which states only for ***any reason other than medical*** it also says request disenrollment from bdcp but this would not apply at this point because your already down at ocs right??/ this makes no sense to me, im still confused

bachelor (sp)degree completion degree program, the navy pays you as an e-3 while your still in college, you are then committed to go to ocs or serve to years as an e-3

Basically it says if you leave for anything other than medical you are obligated to be in enlisted status for 2 years.

The second part then says if your not qualified for your job (ie pilot) you have to do somehting else or you can quit. If you quit refer to what happen when you quit(ie your an E-3 for 2 years)

my rercruiter interprets it to mean that as long as its a medical reason than the two years would not apply to the bdcp candidate,,, regardless i will fill find out,, JT how long do you have till you go and are you a bit nervous knowing that if you DOR you could be doing something you hate?

Hey,

I don't leave until 26 July 2003. I'm not really nervous as it makes DOR'ing a non-option. Let me know what your recruiter says though.

"When Cortez reached the new world he burned his ships. As a result his men were well movitaved."

I agree with JT to definitely read over your contract and be sure you know what you're getting yourself into. Remember its the military your signing up for, not necessarily flight school and recruiters will sugar-coat things to get you to sign. In my case, I'm not worried that I would have to serve in another job if I was medically disqualifed from flight, whether I was forced to because of the BDCP contract or not. Part of the reason I signed with the Navy over the Chair Force for example was that I knew the Navy had a ton of other cool jobs besides aviation should God forbid things not work out with flying. One of the main ones is working with the SeaBees in the civil engineer corps, since civil engineering is my major. Even surface warfare which before i didn't think i would like seems awesome after being to norfolk and seeing those destroyers up close. I'm starting to sound like a poster boy for the Navy, but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that that particular part of the contract I never gave too much attention to because I knew it wouldn't apply to me. Sure I'll be heartbroken if flying doesn't work out, but I will still want to serve my country as an officer in the Navy. Its a very personal decision and I'm sure that not everybody feels this way because everyone is different with their own sets of circumstances regarding civilian job opportunities or whatever. Anybody feel free to jump in with your thoughts on this one.

Right on man Jim. I feel the same way. Although I'm not going for a Pilot or NFO slot. My first goal is just to become a naval officer. After being enlisted I am ready to do it. (I was only 17 when I first joined, so even though I thought I was ready, well I wasn't... till I got older) All you guys out there who are worried about OCS and DOR-ing. Just tell yourself "I will NEVER QUIT" or you'll be really missing out on some cool uniforms.. and all you BDCP guys...well what can I say...if you guys quit then you're freaking retarded.... Muhahahahaahahahahahah no serious being being enlisted is cool and all but being forced to serve 2 years enlistment cause you DOR is not cool. I know this Airman (E3) who got dropped from ROTC at Virginia Tech and all he is doing now is swabbing the deck.. and polishing the latrines. (he is on his 90 day stint TAD)

have I got a long way to run...
