Im new here and I was wondering if anybody knows whats going on with the board selection for SWO

I turned in my package on Nov 6th. Recruiter told me the board would meet the next day. But My recruiter hasnt been very informative. I also believe that a package would need to be submitted a couple days prior to the board date in order to be reviewed and not the afternoon the day before. Not sure. I did not even go to meps and get my physical. I asked her if I needed it prior to turning in my package and she said no. Is this true?

Did anybody get their results yet on swo board results?

please help. My recruiter never picks up her phone and takes a while to reply to emails. Im starting to worry. I need to know if im in or not.

thanks guys

if you submitted your package a day before the board met, there is no chance in hell that that board saw it or even received it on time. Generally, submitting a package to your recruiter is step one. the recruiter then has to submit that package to a higher entity for further review. that process usually takes at least 2 weeks. and then after that, the package is sent to the board and get's reviewed. There are other threads that are discussing SWO boards, but chances are, your package is currently awaiting review by SWO boards convening in JAN/FEB/MAR.

Not sure about the MEPS date either. My recruiter had me go before i submitted my package, but i think you can go also after your package get's reviewed.

My recruiter had me go to MEPS before submitting my package Jan 3rd, haven't heard back, basically what I'm getting out of everything is that no one when the board will meet... My recruiter says any day now, everyone else says late spring early summer, so I'm not holding my breath to hear back soon. Maybe you should talk to another recruiter if you can't contact yours

It really depends how many people they are moving from FY14 to FY15, from that they can project when they need a board, but like RUFi0181 said, with people that need to be redesignated from aviation going to SWO vice other designators that is going to have an effect on how many and when they need SWO's for OCS. I have seen SWO boards put on hold for a year.

Understood, but that still leaves it as a large question mark. Still that is much better than being given false information by an OR and basically holding your breath waiting for an answer. Unfortunately I'm in a position where I can't wait too long, I guess I'll see how it all works out in time

Also I've been hearing that the SWO board has been getting very picky. Why would they redesignate everyone to SWO when usually the people that end up as SWO and didn't want it just end up adding to the non attainment problem. I keep hearing that only people with SWO as first choice are really being considered, yet most the people they get didn't really want to be there.

You can't wait long because you are close to max age?

They have been picky because of few billets available, because of redesignations.

If the people at OCS lose an aviation spot they can take SWO if they want to stay in the USN, or they can go home if they don't want it so if they don't want to be there then they don't have to, they give them that option because the USN has time and money invested in them.

Ok, that makes sense. I can wait until spring/summer and take a temp job, but if I don't hear back I have to attempt to get accepted into my secondary career choice. The Navy is my first choice in career but I can't count on being accepted, and anything else I would choose to do takes time as well and all have age limits. I just hope to hear back from the Navy first.

Up until 5 or 6 months ago I never thought of joining the military, but life has a funny way of changing things. I understand that's it's hurry up and wait, I'm doing my best to hold out and wait for an answer.

I have an additional question, my degree is in biology, and my recruiter told me SWO was the only way I could really go with it, and so I only took the OAR portion of the ASTB. I've seen on this site all different degrees applying for different communities. Is it possible to take the additional portions of the ASTB without retaking the OAR? I don't want to take a chance at lowering my score.

Thanks for all your help

FY 15 selects will start going in July, but if they have pushed a bunch to FY 15 then you could be looking a few months later.

Depending on your age you could go for Pilot or NFO, if your GPA is good enough in specific classes you could go for Nuke, there are other designators you could also apply to but they have small numbers so the ones I listed have decent selection rates.

It used to be if you took the aviation portion within 30 days of taking the OAR they could merge scores, now the time may be more than that, otherwise you would have to retake the whole thing.

Hm I'll ask my OR to check for me, I'm 24 OAR 56 and GPA 3.56 with BS in biology. Does every other designator require the full ASTB?
Thanks again

So I "supposedly" turned in my package on November 7th 2013. Should I have heard from my recruiter by now if my package was declined or not? Or do you guys think my package just got pushed back
