I'd say...keep a straight face anyway. :)

Addendum: the priors in my class were generally quite serious and locked on, and did pretty well.

I agree it will be tough not to laugh after having gone similar situations i.e. basic and sere.

Hey,

I'm prior service... I was a Marine (did 4 years active and a few more drilling in the reserves). I got out in '06 as a Staff Sergeant. Being that I came on active duty in '96, there's a chance I may have been through Parris Island before some of the OCS DIs. What does all that mean to me? Zippy.

My plan is to hit Newport and play the game from word go. I'm going there with my pride left in my parked car, my brain as a sponge for knowledge, and patience to help out those that don't quite get with the program as fast as others. I don't plan on being the 'pick me for a leadership post' guy. I do, however, plan on PT'ing my ass off, paying attention, and trying to stay healthy -- all in favor of a couple gold bars sooner than later.

Well, that's how I plan on attacking OCS... Of course, I could have the totally wrong attitude...

What's your opinion.

DoDo & all, my opinion is... Seriously, it's not like being a POW in the Hanoi Hilton, at least you know what to expect & you know when it will be OVER! Grit your teeth & go along just like boot camp. Years after it's over, you'll look back & laugh about it. Usually, several of your classmates will become lifelong friends having survived this experience together, i.e. 9 of my preflight classmates from 1956, I have stayed in touch with over the years at reunions, Tailhook Symposiums. phone & e-mails.:)

Also, you know you will never have to put up with this type of HS again (Ooops, well maybe a week or so in SERE)!

It sounds like you are not mature enough for a commission, and I hope you grow up while at OCS.

You thought Boot Camp was a "hazing environment"? I thought it was training with a little "right of passage" sprinkled in. You are not the first guy with enlisted time to go through OCS, and they have seen much cooler/experienced guys than you.

You should try to get over yourself before checking in.

Nice post Ray. I too have the same idea. In fact thats what'll be required of us anyways. I look fwd to the new challenge.

Sounds like a pilot response. Nice try.

This is EXACTLY the right attitude. Priors, more often than the off-the-street college guys and gals, were one of two types:

1) The I'm a prior and "know how it works" type who thinks they are better than all the non-priors, takes advantage of any authority given them, and fucks over classmates because they couldn't care less, or

2) Like the above post where he doesn't advertise being a prior, shuts the fuck up and does his best, along with all the non-priors, and helps out his buddies with his prior experiences and sea stories when it is warranted and welcomed.

DO NOT be #1, and if you do, for god's sake, DO NOT be president or VP (this is all "hypothetical" of course...)

That's why i asked. I read about everybody else's post, right out of college, never been to a military training camp. Just curious about what other people have seen when priors went thru OCS. Im not looking fwd to standing out, but it's gonna happen, can't fight it. Im proud of what I've accomplished, though.

SERE was a joke for our time. Been there done that. Didn't like advance beatings, but you learn a lot about yourself and meaning of team. I look fwd to bring these tips to my fellow Ensigns.

Thanks for the post..

I agree #2 is the way to go. I wonder if BEVO had a #1 prior. :)

You forgot the "I'm too good for this" type of prior who DOR's after failing his in-prt because his 1/4 pushups don't count anymore.

No, it was the prior E turned pilot response. I know it isn't that obvious but you might want to give it a little more weight.

Your response to him made his point.

OBTW, what was he trying?
