Question about recruiters

So I went to the Navy.com website to look up my closest recruiter and called him up. There was no answer, so I left a message with my name and number and waited a few days. Still didn't hear anything, so I went to the local recruiting office here.

So after 2 weeks, I have yet to hear from the officer recruiter and the enlisted recruiter is now calling trying to convince me to enlist and then apply for a commission that way. I'm not interested in doing this.

Should I call a different officer recruiter or just wait and hope this guy calls me? I'm a little hesitant to work with this guy now because he can't even return a phone call. I'm worried about what it's going to be like putting a whole package together.

Any advice?

I was thinking about contacting another recruiter, but just wanted to make sure there were no regulations or anything about contacting the recruiter in my district.

I'll probably call the guys up in Houston on Monday since it's closer to me.

Thanks!!

Are you sure that you didn't call the enlistment recruiting center rather than the officer recruiting center? An easy way to tell is that officers recruit officers, so if you're not speaking to an LT you're probably in the wrong place.

Either way, you need to be more persistent than just leaving a voicemail and waiting for a call back. If you are serious about getting in touch with someone (generally speaking, not just this case), it's usually a good idea to use two forms of contact -- leave a voicemail and send an email stating your intentions. If you don't hear back in 24 hours, call and email again. Recruiters are usually quite busy so you have to be aggressive. This shows them that you're serious about becoming an officer, and when they see that they'll be more inclined to give you attention.

That's not always true about Officers recruiting Officers. In Buffalo, NY my Officer recruiter was a CPO. My advice would be to just try another recruiting office. Your local may be on leave or just plain suck at his job. Officer recruiters need to hit quotas just like enlisted ones so someone out there will be glad to help you.
Most people will tell you that if you want a commission do not enlist with the intention to switch over. It's not as simple as an enlisted recruiter will lead you to believe. Good luck!

kwarner, if there are regulations about contacting other recruiting offices, the office will tell you, and hopefully get you in contact with the office that is closer. Keep calling. Officer recruiters like to see their candidates take initiative. It's a good first display of leadership: being active about achieving your goals.
No matter what, from what I've seen on here, do NOT enlist if you goal is a commission.
Good luck.

There's 2 LCDR's, 1 LT, 2 E-6's and a civillian in my O recruiters office. Usually one of the E-6's will answer the phone.

Yeah, I've actually called this guy about 5 times and still haven't heard anything. I found the site for the NRD that I'm in, but the page isn't working so I can't get any other contact information except the phone number which is on Navy.com.

If anyone knows of another site or how I could get an e-mail address, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Ok, so not all recruiters are officers; I was mistaken. Regardless, an officer recruiter would never try to get you to go enlisted, so it's possible that the OP called an enlisting recruiting center.

Assuming you are calling the correct number for the officer recruiter, you could try calling the enlistment center and ask for the officer recruiter's contact information. If they try to get you to enlist, which they probably will, just tell them that you're only interested in becoming an officer, and that you haven't been able to get in touch with anyone through the information on Navy.com.

You can also try contacting other officer recruiters near you. If there is a problem with location, then they will give you the contact information you need to get in touch with someone.

When I first contacted someone, I went to an enlistment office not knowing any better. They gave me the information for the officer recruiting station, sent them over my information, and gave me a bunch of brochures about enlistment programs. When I called the officer station, the chief who first answered the phone wasn't helpful at all. I called again on a later date and spoke to someone else who was much more helpful, and then forwarded my contact info to the LT working at the office and things went fine from there. As the LT put it when I mentioned the trouble I had getting through to someone who didn't blow me off, some recruiters are just on the ROAD program -- retired on active duty -- and don't give a crap.

I don't know much about recruiting, but I would imagine an Officer recruiter would encourage someone to go enlisted if they weren't qualified to be an Officer.
