Hey, thanks for the info everybody... I figure if I don't end up flying Jets that I will end up liking whatever I get into anyways so its no biggie.. In the meantime, I'll work on my grades, staying OUT of trouble, and staying IN shape.

To answer Carno: many candidates that I saw get attrited had no experience leading a group of peers, or had never worked as a team with others. Teamwork and peer leadership are traits that are stressed in most high school/college activities, whether it be sports, Boy Scouts, science club, etc. Just my 2 yen.

and LASTLY, never EVER EVER tell a Flight Instructor you want JETS only... alot of them are helio bubs and this will catch their attention... if they ask you what you want to fly, inform them you want to fly anything the marine corp wants them to fly. USMC Major gave me that advice just recently...

This has been pointed out as bad gouge over and over, but I'll do it again because I'm a jerk.

Truly, "jets only" is the wrong attitude. If you want jets, tell them you want jets. Work your a$$ off, get lucky and get them.

Also, what the hell is a "marine corp?" Are you referring to the Marine Corps?

NROTC (Marine Option) is not PLC ; However, it does have its advantages.

- Marine Options can also put in a package for a guaranteed flight spot.
- One 6-week OCS versus Two 6-week or One 10-week session
- Full-Tuition and a stipend
- The non-OCS summers are fun too, Mountain Warfare and CORTRAMID.
- You get paid for all summer training at the rate of E-5.

Don't discount NROTC already, it is a pretty good deal too!

Work on PT lots, DO sports, and hold leadership positions in school, as well as getting good grades/test scores.
Go to Naval Academy Summer Seminar and get the PT Ironman award/ or the Leadership award, cause it puts you in the spotlight, then spend your senior year applying for the Naval Academy, keeping up grades and pt.
I almost made it in but I fell short because I didn't do enough sports or hold leadership positions.

I don't know where the Naval Academy bit came in. It's something to consider, but the guy asked about PLC. Also, he seems prety amped about being a pilot, and the academy doesn't offer aviation guarantees.

Something to think about--even if you're PLC or OCC, consider an NROTC college. The Marines at the NROTC program will usually let you workout and drill with them if you ask, which will help you get ready for OCS. Of course, that limits the "getting to live a college life" plus of those programs, but everything comes with a price.

My future brother-in-law is graduating from boot camp in about 1 week. He'll be doing communications in the USMCR as far as I know. He is wanting to do the PLC program and I'm not exactly sure what his recruiters told him before he shipped.

1. Is it possible for him to already be in the PLC program before he shipped for boot? ( His father said he was already in the PLC, but I don't know how that would work)

2. I have heard there is a form to get signed to release you from deployment commitments while in college. Is this true?
