Which is weird, given the size of those lines. I'm wondering if maybe it was a house line and not one of the medium tension lines. This is NOT directed at the pilot...if that was truly the LZ selected by EMS, that is a really shitty LZ.

Here's an LZ that we hate going into during the day. I've only been there once at night and it's even more unpleasant (Google Maps doesn't show the house line that is also coming off the power poles). But even that LZ has more room away from the 15 different wire sections than what appears in the CareFlight news story.
Incident occured around 5 am local, and local news reported it was high tension grid power lines. So perhaps low light conditions were a factor?

Another gem of a video from Mike Machat - love his channel. I still have memories as a newly reported ENS at NASP, running the O-Course in what was then Aviation Preflight Indoctrination with the Blues' A-4s practicing overhead.

There are some additional pictures floating around the industry that shows some other angles and confirms what an absolutely shitty LZ that was. However what was also mentioned is that due to COVID-fear, both certificate holders and hospital programs have eliminated EMS LZ training for the last 18-24 months. Given the high turnover of local/rural EMS, there are probably a lot of people who don't know what to look for when setting up non-predesignated LZs (or how to park vehicles to show the hazards).

We got our first avionics upgrade GA-8 on the line and the results of this all Garmin upgrade are impressive. Notable is GTN-750 FMS/Navigator and GI-275 electronic flight displays for ADI and HSI. We have 18 of these in trhe fleet. Great performing 8 seater air truck that any GA pilot can master with a little training. No AP - but very stable IFR platform.
