Simply put, Israel has got to give a little to get some peace. This is not as black and white a fight as many portray it, both sides play pretty dirty. Granted, while the Palestinians are a train wreck and have and continue to commit horrible acts of terror, leveling a couple houses and seizing land are not really working out sa far for the Israelis. They have even ignored our requests to stop building settlements, basically giving us the finger in public.

As for Baker: after the Gulf War the hostages in Lebanon were released, the Oslo Accords were signed and for the first time the Palestinians and Israelis seemed to tolerate each other. All of it was started under G H W Bush's and Baker's stewardship, not too shabby.

Baker is a huge stud. He was the "Velvet Hammer" before Jelly. :D

We could use a few like G H W Bush, Baker and Scowcroft right about now, a nice realist point of view can be useful sometimes. And they would bitch slap those that tried to screw them over, just ask Saddam and the Israelis.

That's the difference between having a pragmatist and a crusader in the Oval Office. I heard someone say once that a pragmatist will leave the situation in a better condition than when he found it. The crusader leaves things a mess for the next guy.

I agree w/your posts & Brett's about Baker, et al. Every time I see him around the current crop of decision makers, he looks like a grown up around a bunch of teenagers playing grown up...like a chaperone at a school dance. Has the gravitas/ statesman-like qualities sorely lacking in those currently making decisions.

There's that word again. I think if you change the accent to the second syllable, it sounds like a cocktail from Central America or something. GraVItas! :D

mmm... Gravitas, two parts Grappa muddled with sugar and coco leaves with a floater of Pisco. <-- the face you make right before you barf after drinking it

The thing that I like the best about the ISG is that they really hammered out the reality that the shit has hit the fan over there, contrary to white house reports. How are we going to fix a problem if we refuse to acknowledge it? Also something that was refreshing when hearing Gates senate confirmation hearing.
