Because of a 'minor' oversight by my OSO I missed out on O1-E pay by two months. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to appeal my dates. Or at least a way to get someone to take a little closer look at my case. The Admin sections at OCS and TBS really weren't of much service and trying to get personal service out of MATSG is like being drug through a patch of poison ivy naked.

I wouldn't say that's minor......that's alot of money over the course of O1E-03E. What exactly is the problem? If it says on your dd214 that you had at least 4 years service then there shouldn't be a problem. If it doesn't, and it's not correct.....then you shouldn't have ever signed it. Maybe somebody else has something else to suggest, but as far as I know......you can't alter a DD214. That's why we were always told to make sure everything was correct.
 
Yes, I have a DD214, I don't think I'd be inquiring about O1-E pay if I didn't. Here's the situation, I got out with a school cut so I did not have four years and one day. I asked my OSO about my situation and he said there was nothing I could do, I would either get it or I wouldn't. I asked him to check on it just to be sure at which point he got all pissed because he was a JAG officer so obviously knew everyting. The problem is in the time I was waiting for OCS my inactive reserve contract expired. If it would not have expired my time in OCS would have counted as enlisted time and easily would have put me over four years in a continuous duty status. If my OSO would have taken the time to research the situation he would have found out that I could have come in for a weekend to work for him which would have allowed me to extend my IRR contract. I realize there may be nothing I can do about this now but it's worth a try since it is a considerable amount of money.

I'm not trying to be an ass but the above is why this probably has no chance of being changed. I agree it sucks and it is alot of money.
 
I understand that, I'm just trying to find out if there is any use in pursuing this or if I should just shutup and worry about flying.
 
I'd pursue it... worst that can happen is your pay stays the same... It is a lot of money on the line.
 
If you check out the pay charts, O-1E with 4 has the same base pay as O-1 with 4. Now the difference is that O1-E at 6 gets a raise, while O-1 is maxed out, but by then you'll have O-2 anyway, and again, O-2 with 6 is the same as O-2E with 6. It only starts to make a difference if you got 5 or more years of enlisted time. However, what does suck is that O-1E BAH is higher than O-1, but if you're denied, it's not like you're missing out on a small fortune.

Actually I am missing out on a lot because they counted all my inactive time for pay so I'm paid as an O-1 over 10, but O-1s stop getting paid more after four.

So you were AD for 4 years (or just short), and inactive (IRR?) for 6? IRR shouldn't count towards your time in service, so unless we're misunderstanding your situation, something very odd is afoot.

IRR does count for time in service. Where it doesn't count is for retirement.

Example: Guy does 4 years active, no more, no less. Gets out and his 4 years of IRR time starts. Meanwhile he's in college. Gets commissioned at the end of his 4 years of college/IRR time and gets paid an 0-1E over 8. PEBD stays the same, ADFBD moves up 4 years though.

At time of commission - for pay purposes he's at 8 years, for retirement purposes he's at 4.
 
bigfish - Thought about this one for a while, and I've come up with two possible solutions:

1. Does your OQR contain your Chronological Record of Service from your enlisted days? If so, it will/should account for your time.

2. Get a copy of your Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). Even if your ROS isn't in your OQR, the OMPF has a record of pretty much everything you've done in the military - your contracts, pro/con marks, FitReps, awards, etc. You can request the OMPF from the Personnel Management Support Branch at HQMC. (Their site seems to be down at the moment, but it's usually good-to-go.)

The OMPF should help you and admin iron out the timing issues.

Correct...that's a better way to put it - "counts for pay but not for active retirement." I'm at 17 years for pay but only 14 for retirement. (Unless I get retarded and decide to go with a reserve retirement that I can't draw until age 60. Not.)
