Most people think that this place is the iconic Navy SEAL bar in Coronado, Danny's Palm Bar & Grill is a bit more authentic and frequented. Inside of Danny's are pictures of SEALS's in their dress uniforms with atrocious looking beards. I get the lineage, history and tradition, but man, if you're having your picture taken for an official purpose - in uniform, maybe have the Hollywood make-up artist remove the snake-eater beard and perhaps grab a haircut . . . . no?

For those guys, the beard is a badge of honor left over from GWOT and the Dick Marcinko days before that. He encouraged his guys to look like a bunch of oil rig workers- in part to blend into the blue-collar corners of the world. He also liked to thumb his nose at the clean-cut academy grads he was regularly crosswise with.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but that's the culture as I understand it (don't punch me in the face if I'm wrong).

All that having been said, the guy I posted doesn't appear to be a SEAL.

NSW is a community very little people in the Navy understand. SEALs have beards many times for operational reasons, not as prevalent now days without GWOT. Many of the people on the wall at Danny’s are from DEVGRU, i don't think any of us can tell them whether beards are right or wrong, dress uniform or not
