You guys really don't so a lot of ASW any more, go you? Especially coordinated ops ASW? It was common knowledge in my day. LAMPS = no hover drop. Dippers = hover drop.

Real world? Not so much. Sim...yes.

More than anything I just showed my ass. Oh well. We know the rough capabilities of the different helos, but how they prosecute and attack is left up to them, ie...one of the the alligators further away from the boat when you're still trying to learn how to fight your own platform.

And I'm not speaking for RW assets with FFWs, either.

My most sincere apologies, Joboy. When you said "I certainly can't speak for ASW, but in pretty much any other realm, helo will not be doing any sort of "attack" from a hover"", I took it at face value that you actually meant "any other realm." I did not realize that your statement included the "I'm not speaking for RW assets with FFWs" clause.

NO need to read between the lines and make assumptions about what I'm "saying". THAT is it.

Again, my apologies. I didn't realize I was reading between the lines when I quoted you verbatim.

Damn you KBay, beating me to it. I was going to point out the use of PGMs (TOW/HF) from the HH for skids.

What the hell are you doing up this early anyway?

Well since we're being polite today, I'll apologize for not running my posts through a lawyer to ensure no one would take them out of context. I am a USN Naval aviator, and can speak to what my community does, as well as have an idea what other communities do (other community transition DH/CO/XO who've told sea stories about their legacy communities). I am not in the MC, and know nothing about their tactics, except possibly a hint as they apply to our mission sets. If I make a comment about "in all other cases", I'll try to narrow that down to the realm of what I might have an idea about. I apologize for not specifically excluding the Marine Corps. While we're at it, I can't speak for the Air Force, Coast Guard, Army, CAP, IDF or any other non USN service.

Fair? Feel better? :)

Smilies, of course.

When did you become a liberal?

Group hugs all around. After all, for those of us in the US and A, it's Monday.

Case of the Mondays? Mine was spent all day FCFing... except this time the 12 hours was broken up, so I got to pee and stuff.

By the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, may none of you have to deal with this:

Just try and not fly into our MAD bird. That seemed to be a favorite past time of Webmaster and his cronies at PMRF many years ago.

I certainly can't speak for ASW, but in pretty much any other realm, helo will not be doing any sort of "attack" from a hover.
A dipping helo with hot contact always dropped from a hover and had the best pk with the Mk-46 due to it's ability to use the snake mode. (Before anyone yells "OPSEC", I did a google search and MK-46 seeker modes are public knowledge.)

Any bubblehead would tell you, next to another submarine it was a dipping helo he most feared.

We know the rough capabilities of the different helos, but how they prosecute and attack is left up to them, ie...one of the the alligators further away from the boat when you're still trying to learn how to fight your own platform.
Wow! We knew their tactics/capabilities almost as well as we knew ours. We had too since if a ship wasn't the on-scene commander, the P-3 was. And even if the ship was in charge, we still usually had direct control over the helo(s).

I am far from a guru. Still working on that learning tactics thing. I'm sure websan, or any of our MC Taccos can talk your ears off about coord ops and SAC and all kinds of good stuff. Like I said, upgrading PPC=closest alligator to the boat right now.

Pilots don't need to be ASW guru's. You have us for that!:icon_tong

In the H-60F the crazy A-dub in the back giving you crap can punch up an air plan, all you have to do is fly the FTP's. Magic! Ahhh how I loved spanking the shit out of submarines, H-60 or P-3 it was a blast!

That explains it. For some reason I thought you were done with your initial tour and back in VT land as an IP.
