running distances and pace at OCS

Ok, i keep hearing two different things - both on this site and even from the Navy. Is OCS 12 weeks or is it 13? Not that it really matters, but I'd just like some clarification

So what's broken on this jet today, Chief?

OCS was 13 weeks, it is now 12. The change was relatively recently, so there is still some incorrect information out there, even on Navy owned websites. Rest assured, OCS is only 12 weeks long.

Oh sweet God. Sounds like fun.

Yeah, you don't want to end up in H. It's like a black hole. Candidates go in and they tend to stay for a long time. Don't sweat the running though. The runs aren't very long and if you can gut out 20-30 minutes of an 8 minute mile pace you'll probably be ok.

Typically those candidates are the ones who were very ill-prepared for OCS and needed a lot or work. That, or they don't want to be there, don't want to improve and are generally purged from the system via DOR/attrition. There's no shame in failing a PFA, getting yourself into shape in 3 extra weeks with Master Guns, and then classing back up. In the end, you will be a stronger candidate and a leader.

That didn't happen to me, but I knew a couple of PFA failures who were great guys/gals. :)
