I think it's time to pull out of California and cut our losses.

Only in San Fran

The Bay City News Wire reports that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted against docking the USS Iowa in the city as a floating museum because of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward homosexuality.

The San Francisco congressional delegation secured $3 million to move the Iowa, which was present at the signing of the treaty between Japan and the Allies ending World War II, from Rhode Island to San Francisco. A study said the ship would attract some 500,000 visitors in its first year.

Supervisors voted against a resolution in support of the move, saying they did so as a statement against the war in Iraq and to protest the military's dehumanizing treatment of gays.

Screw 'em. If they don't want the boat there and the associated extra dollars flowing into their tourist traps then that's their problem.

I'm sure some other community will be honored to have the Iowa.

beat the gay out of them?
what an enlightened opinion

don't you have something more productive to be doing? like putting another confederate flag sticker on your truck?

Thats ridiculous, but not surprising considering the political climate and culture of San Francisco. Like someone else said, its their loss. Move it somewhere else, where its appreciated.

Come on, the FBI would have given him twins!
soo... SF raised 3mil to bring the ship to town, and then decided that it was going to use it to make a political statement?

leave. SF will lose the investment, and any future publicity and/or revenues that the ship would bring in. oh, and while they're at it, they should do away with Fleet Week too.

i'm in Texas, so will someone please explain this 'CA logic' to me?

Ummm Fleet week in SF is a good time. Guys this isnt that big a deal really. It takes lots of points of view to make this country work. New flash SF is a really liberal city oh well. Im sure another city will host teh battelship and everything will be ok.
There are many other political arguments worth fighting, this isnt one of them.

Hopefully, from now on the Confederate flag will be left out of this conversation. I know it was meant for a statement, but those of us that have to deal with skin heads etc. using it for everything else but what it stands for is irritating and completely disrespectful to our ancestors. I'm tired of seeing it being used by rednecks and others for the wrong reasons.

Give the ship to someone who wants it and will appreciate it. Leave San Fran to those that live there.
