That’s a helluva memo. In that Navy, I would be:
1.) Still In
2.) Probably divorced

EL Toro and Miramar O Clubs during Air Show weekends were a sight to behold in the 80’s and early 90’s. Those 5 annunciator lights on each shoulder were apparently ignored. Wingwoman in deed.

Any advice on how to find a partner who longs for the skies as much as I do?

Average Tuesday: in the air. Average weekend: in the outdoors. That's the ideal for me, at least.

i guess at some point between 1970 and 1989, the directive to "INVITE GROUPS OF YOUNG LADIES SUCH AS THE STARS & BARS, BACHELORETTES, COLLEGE SORORITIES, OR OTHER LOCAL GROUPS TO ACT AS HOSTESSES AT THE MESS"
turned into "INVITE SKANKY YOUNG LADIES TO THE MESS WHO WILL TAKE OFF ALL THEIR CLOTHES FOR $3-5 SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK IN THE BACK BAR WHILE THE WIVES ARE UP FRONT"

Talk to the guy who invented phones with cameras in them. We used to have a strict “no pictures” policy.
Also, don't be the guy that has your wife meet you at a port call in Thailand. The ready room will hate you.

I think the conventional courtesy was, if you do anything, make sure it is like a group dinner at somewhere neutral the first day, and leave before 1800-1900. Do not set foot in the admin, and do not be seen again in any setting for the rest of the port call. Do not stay anywhere close to where the admin is located.

There have always been 'rules' when it comes to that sort of thing, but as with most unwritten rules you always have 'that guy' who ignores them then wonders why they are shunned, ridiculed and no longer included in the squadron 'reindeer games'. I'm looking at you Milhouse!
