I didn't think you were allowed to use direct family members for references, whats the rule on that?

Also, if you wait till October you get to go up against me :devil_125

My OR here in CA said that if they are high enough rank (in whichever branch of service) that it is acceptable. Of course you should have other refrences in addition...

See, but when you start talking rank, you get in a huge pissing contest. Sergeant Major of the Army is still supposed to salute Mr. freshly dubbed Ensign...

Not to mention my dad was a warrant officer which he described as, "Well Chuck, you proved you're cool enough to fly, but you never finished that degree so we're gonna create this little category just for you. Oh and everyone is gonna call ya chief... cool?"

Exactly, I've heard you'll be luck to earn the respect of a Chief and that they are the salt of the earth.

Lola, I was talking about how high in rank does a family member have to be for them to be able to give you a recommendation. Did your OR give you a specific rank? or just tell you it was ok?

Well my OR hasn't said anything, but I will definitely make it a point to ask him... I know its kind of cheesy to use your dad, but I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed.

Plus, I live in Boise freakin' Idaho.... trying to find retired military, especially pilots, is ridiculous.

Boise has A-10 and kC-135 ANG units... Plenty of pilots in that area.

kurtz is right, I'm looking mainly for Navy personnel since I already have a letter from an 0-6 AF pilot. I have spoken with a few 0-2 A-10 pilots out of the guard unit, but I don't know any of them very well at all. I am considering getting one of them loaded up and sitting him in front of a computer though.;)

You thought about pledging an ANG unit? I am while doing the Navy app process as well.

Yeah, well. The Dude abides.

Ummm...why? An O-6 is an O-6, they all have to be pretty damn good at their job to be where they are. Why does the branch of service matter? So the board may lean a little towards Navy/USMC officers, but that won't make the slightest difference in the whole scheme of things. Get LOR's from people who know you well, don't just try and go out and make a few "friends" to give you a LOR. Just my .02 though.
