September 2014 IDC Board

Many companies that utilize corporate jets have a seating arrangement based on who is on that jet, and don't you dare sit in the wrong seat! (someone I know did that)

That, and even if you're 30 minutes early to the stupid thing, if the big wigs have already arrived, the plane will leave you in a heartbeat.

This notion that we work packages for half a year (interviews, medical, LOR's, etc.) to just fire them off to NRC to float until one day five months later receive an answer is ludicrous. The system is flawed and I would expect something better in 2014 but the only thing we have is a GD phone call to the one person that has some knowledge of whats going on... but this is misguided and unnecessary?
This is where I agree with @navoffrec. Use your Chain of Command to address complaints rather than hassel the PM over results. He or she are the messanger, don't shoot 'em! Remember down the road how you felt during the selection process when you're an IDC Officer sitting on the Selection Board. I promise you will have a different perspective. Also, bring it up at your next CNO, MCPON or FLTCM call. That is sure to turn some heads.

What did you get picked up for then? I keep checking this between the long pauses Excel is taking in processing changes to my Unit's "personnel status" tracker.
I got picked up for SWO waaaaaaaaaay back in June - something strange is going on with SWO... They haven't issued FINSEL for SWO since May. Since then, there have been 3 additional SWO boards. I can't imagine the only people going to OCS in the current and next coming months are aviation folks. I thought they were waiting to release SWO FINSEL until after the INTEL board since many applicants can go in as a SWO (IP)??

Thanks to everyone for the kind sentiments. I submitted everything I could get my hands on along with personal letters and now I just have to wait to see if I get a waiver. Where before I was upset that I wouldn't make the deadline for the December board, now I'm just praying that I get to submit at kit to the board at all. Perhaps there is solace in waiting for results knowing that you at least got to put your chips on the table :)

I've seen some people from the SWO board early this month who have already been issued final select letters.

I needed to get a waiver because I broke my arm when I was 6 years old. I went in to the doctor's office and they said they got rid of all of my records as a child after I turned 18. So the doctor just wrote a letter for me that said I healed without any problems (which was true) and when I was at MEPS the doctor just looked at my arm and moved on. He didn't say a word about it.

I hear you. Like most of you, I am extremely frustrated about the wait but understand there is no way around it. I'm a hot headed type A and a loud mouth.

Before going on leave I had mentioned something to my DIVO about the wait. I got "well, that's how the Navy works" response in a round about way. This plays into my view that the only person who cares about your career is you and no one else. Unless it benefits them in someway you will not get help. Maybe this is a culture problem on the FTS side... who knows. I have little faith in my COCs ability to obtain answers that I can get myself by picking up the phone.

I believe we are in a never ending loop like groundhog day where everyone here complains about the wait and then we forget and get sidetracked for a few pages and then its back to our complaining.

It feels like home?

I'm just of the mind that we'll know when we know. No sense in agonizing over it since it doesn't do anything to expedite the process.
Let's just have story time while we wait.
AD folks, tell us about the nastiest thing you've witnessed at sea.
