OMG, I can't even believe you mentioned the corn dog place outside the main gate! Yeah....it's not very good. But when you can't find a Jimmy John's late at night, it's all the same!

For any MIDN who end up there, a few words about Sasebo...I like how on the walkway around that big park right outside the base they have the distances marked off for runners. Sailortown to the Fleet landing in I don't know how fast, but it HAD to be better then any PRT I ever ran (All while hammered). Word to the wise: Don't try to make the LAST Liberty boat back to the ship if your not tied up to the peir. You might end up paying for it. (Or passed out on the benches with the rest of the not so luckys til the 6AM boat comes in. And it gets kinda chilly there some nights.)

Eating in Yokosuka:
- Red Ramen: Right out the main gate, turn left about 50 feet down, cheap and good.
- Pepper Lunch: Walk down blue street, and on the left side after Sakaia (sp? dept store) go down the side street, it is about 20 feet in on the left. Pay yen into vending machine, get meal and drink tickets, sit down and give them the tickets, and they will ask you what size rice you want.
- Gukaku (once again spelling): Basically Korean BBQ, where you cook your own food. Go down to the Kei-Kyu Yokosuka Train station, end of blue street on right, there is a high rise mall/dept store there with starbucks out front, go inside and to the top of it, this restaurant and many other good ones are on the top two floors.

Most definitely you need to order a chu-hai somewhere.

In and around Yokosuka, at many of the Qs and at the Rec Center, or the PSD Second Deck (across from McD), you can pick up a variety of directions to local attractions. Or you can download here from the base website: http://www.cfay.navy.mil/FFSC%20Website/My%20Webs/maps_&_local_info.htm

If you don't have much time, take a short trip to Kamakura and see the Budda statue, and walk around that nice beachside town. Quite a few historical sites to see, and it is a nice walk around the town. A very short train ride from base.

Or go up to Yokohama (Bayside and MM21 - their largest/tallest building), only 45 minutes by train.

If you dig electronics, recommend going to Akihabara in Tokyo, directions on the website.

Finally, if you want to see the nite life, head up to Roppongi, catch the last train up that night, party from midnight till 5 am, and catch the last train back.

But, whatever you do, conduct yourself accordingly in Japan. You are a representative of the US Navy, and America. During your indoc you will definitely be made aware of 7th Fleet's liberty and stern responses to drinking related incidents.

So many flavors to choose from.

Pachinko... I thought it would be fun to try after what I remember seeing from a long time ago.... not so.

Most are all electronic now, I had no idea what was going on, not to mention the extremely loud and annoying music. Quickest 500 yen I ever lost.

If anyone needs directions or any info, I work at the hospital in Yokosuka. Feel free to look me up, I'd be happy to help out.

And yes, Chu-Hi is very good...(grape and apple are favorites of ours)

Also, don't sit around base...there is so much to see and do here. Don't wait for someone to invite you somewhere, the trains are easy to figure out, even for a first-timer.

The reason we're in Japan now is the amazing time my husband had on his middy cruise out here. He wanted to come back, and is enjoying it even more now.

Fourth STAY AWAY FROM HABU SAKE!!! I can't stress this enough. It's not worth it, the stuff will knock your ass out and you will have no clue what the hell happened the rest of the night.

Dude.....THATS THE WHOLE POINT! Freaked me out in the beginning with the whole snake thing and all. But after that 1st shot I knew it was gonna be a good night. I went to the bar with all the dollar bills stapled on the walls (anyone know the name?). Anyways, I miss Yokosuka. Best middy cruise the Navy sent me on. Made tons of friends from USNA. But the pink-eye I had the last week of cruise kinda sucked. Being on the oldest DDG at the time didnt help much (O'Brien, now decom).

Question: How much household goods are you able to take to Iwakuni Japan?

TMO told us 75% of our household goods are able to be taken to Iwakuni, Japan.. granted we don't want to take all 75% but it gives us a lil' bit to work with... HOWEVER, I went to the Relocations office in little hall....the lady said, we were only allowed 3k lbs in household goods... which one should we listen to. TMO or Relocations office? Does anyone know...I've been to Okinawa Japan and that I know is 3k lbs...but as we all know mainland japan is different from Okinawa. Any suggestions on what to do here or who to ask next?
