Question: How much household goods are you able to take to Iwakuni Japan?

TMO told us 75% of our household goods are able to be taken to Iwakuni, Japan.. granted we don't want to take all 75% but it gives us a lil' bit to work with... HOWEVER, I went to the Relocations office in little hall....the lady said, we were only allowed 3k lbs in household goods... which one should we listen to. TMO or Relocations office? Does anyone know...I've been to Okinawa Japan and that I know is 3k lbs...but as we all know mainland japan is different from Okinawa. Any suggestions on what to do here or who to ask next?

I don’t have a clue. I know we took about 9,000lbs over to Atsugi and brought 13,000lb back.

uhhh..yeah, that's problem...the "freaking people where we're stationed at currently" don't have a freakin' clue...just trying to get on the ball since the movers come in 2 weeks and we still can't get a straight answer. :icon_rage

Nor do I have a clue, either, but remember my Department Head (Pearl Harbor) would not approved my leave to go to Japan, unless I agreed to let him go with me, as he had never been there and I spoke near fluent Japanese.

I left him in a bar in Atami, with dictionary, when I returned about half an hour later found that he told the locals that he was the next Ambassador to Japan, he had in tow the wife of one of the locals, with the promise that the three of us were going to drive back to Tokyo. Long story short, we closed the bar, all (dozen or so) went back to our room, partied all night, none the wiser vs.a.vs our new Ambassador. (Somehow DH got mixed up with Ambassador in the dictionary)

TBS said for him to not contact his perspective unit/sponser yet until it is time to go. He still has 2mo amo school first before heading over to Japan. HOWEVER...TMO finally got it together...we went to go visit and speak with them directly since our paperwork had to be re-written because of the amount of weight was wrong. And, after going back and checking through the updated paperwork we found out that, Iwakuni was imediately made 75% of household goods effective starting this year. Okinawa still remains 25%of household goods. *Whew* glad that got fixed...except now our carriers can't come out on the estimated dates because of the additional increase so we have to bump one of the dates 3 days earlier. arrgh! sorry about posting this question in this thread... but thanks for all additional help I received, and now you know in case someone else asks.

Thats just stupid... not contacting until hes leaving defeats the purpose of any sponsorship program in place. So much for Marines taking care of their own in this case. Even if he just has his verbals, I would contact them to at least let them know hes comming... Its not like hes moving to a command a few hrs away. There may be things they could let him know that they wish they knew prior to their PCS (like the exchange doesnt sell cordless telephones... or at least didnt when we were there because of something to do with overlapping frequencies of something the locals used).

They probably didn't know the movers were coming to move our stuff to japan so soon. They probably assumed that when the time gets closer to moving to japan we should contact them, not knowing, the moving company is coming on the 8th of June to ship our stuff out and put the other half in long term storage- which is why we needed the correct information. He'll still have time to contact his unit for a sponsor but it will be somewhere closer to when it's time to leave and check in. Thanks for the link...btw. I really appreciate it.
