Coverage doesn't kick in until the moment you check into OCS. Between swearing in and OCS, you are considered IRR and eligible for benefits.
Lol. I thought this too, but if they're severe enough, won't they consider the risk of further injury and rest you?
Nope. You don't get rest until after you are injured. To be honest, most people get bruises, sprains, aches and just have to push through it. If they rested everyone OCS would be much longer also medical staff cant attend to every ache and pain. It is also important to keep in mind that you are not really too valuable to cut loose ever. Someone is always waiting to fill your spot and if your mind or your body cant meet the requirements, someone else will move in 3 weeks later.
That makes sense; I know someone graduated recently after being at OCS for 21 weeks because she hurt her knee. I wondered if that was more an exception.
It depends on your timing. When I was there it wasn't unheard of to have candidates sitting in H for a while but my class chief was very opposed to those guys sitting around and he went on to become the lead RDC. Things change with the needs of the Navy and with staff. If they don't need you they wont keep you around. It should also be noted that sitting around in H would be awful. Its like purgatory. You still are treated like candidate but you are not making any progress towards the finish line. I would have pushed through just about anything just to keep progressing towards getting out of there with a commission.

We had a guy in our class who graduated after being there for nearly a year, and a woman who was there even longer when she graduated with us.. YMMV.

Probably a very stupid question, however...
I head to OCS tomorrow from Hawaii and land in Rhode Island at 6pm. My orders say to report no earlier than 1600 on Saturday and no later than 0900 on Sunday. The issue is I don't see an address. My recruiter told me to get a hotel room on base for Saturday night so I booked one in the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites. Can anyone tell me how far that hotel is from where we are supposed to check in? Also do you recommend checking in the night before or getting up early and checking in before 0900?

You check in at Callaghan Hall Sunday morning prior to 0900, if you try to check in prior you will be turned away.
Officer Candidate School (OCS)
Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian attire on the Sunday closest to your report date at 0800. Ask the Base Security for directions for OCS check-in and follow posted signs that read "OCS Arrivals". This will take you to Callaghan Hall. Designated parking will be provided.
If arriving in Newport prior to the Sunday report date, you will need to make your own lodging accommodations as Officer Candidate School does not have the capability to house students prior to the designated report date. You can find lodging information at the bottom of the page.

To be clear (and to save you unnecessary pain) I think that reads “NLT 0900” so I’d be there at 0855, not 0905...

Got a D+ in a class I needed a C in. GPA survived, but now I won't be awarded my degree until August or September. Make-up class ends 23JUN18.
Where I'm concerned is how close that cuts to the end of FY18, for which I was PROREC'd. Recruiter said to call him when the final grade is posted, and "We'll see where we are then." Undergrad director for my department says a letter from the Dean stating I've completed the degree is the best they can do.
Would that suffice for a FINSEL, or have I inadvertently extended this whole process for myself?
