What student who is serious about the task at hand, gets a D (or a C, for that matter) in any class? That takes deliberate effort.

The mistake was in overloading myself with math classes. I should’ve been a little more honest with myself and given myself more time to the upper division stuff but alas, here I am.

You should have front loaded your math courses so all you needed to take was raquetball and electives your senior year.

If NRC cant find someone to fill that vacant June OCS class you were slated for, you essentially screwed someone out of a selection spot from your poor choices and effort to finish the semester strong.

Don't bother, if you fail it they will give you additional training on Week 9, and you get to skip morning PT. Essentially they'll give you free lessons if you need it.

It's really not hard, you don't need to be a professional swimmer by any means. You jump off a 10 foot tower, swim to the side, stay afloat in the water for 5 minutes, and swim 100 meters, and then practice filling your coveralls with air to stay afloat. There's break between every part. The only people I saw fail, were the ones who couldn't stay calm in the water. Just take your time, relax, and move at your own pace and you'll be fine.

for the stay afloat portion, do you have to do the dead man float or can you tread water? I'm not good at floating so that is the only physical activity portion I am concerned with.

Just about every swim test I've done included both drown-proofing and treading water. I'm negatively bouyant as well, and I'm not a fan of drown-proofing for several reasons, but if you follow their technique, you'll get through it. Doing it with no gear (like in OCS) is not a big deal, it's when you have all your survival gear on that it gets much worse, at least for me, but it's still survivable.

If an OCS application is pro rec'd and accepted on this upcoming board, does that application have an expiration date if the person weren't able to ship off in a reasonable timeframe?
In other words, would you have to reapply to OCS if you were accepted but couldn't ship out for another 9 months to a year?

Probably a very stupid question, however...

I head to OCS tomorrow from Hawaii and land in Rhode Island at 6pm. My orders say to report no earlier than 1600 on Saturday and no later than 0900 on Sunday. The issue is I don't see an address. My recruiter told me to get a hotel room on base for Saturday night so I booked one in the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites. Can anyone tell me how far that hotel is from where we are supposed to check in? Also do you recommend checking in the night before or getting up early and checking in before 0900?

The Gateway is on base and is a short walk to where you check in. Good luck!

Did you check the official OCS website? That would be a good start...

Two must have items from a recent grad-

ninja star measuring tool- for RLP (dritz makes it, a quilting 14-1 seam measuring tool- get at fabric store or Amazon for about $5. Take a coupls, they tend to disappear)

Take a clipboard for getting crisp folds/tucks on sheets. The NEX sells out of them fast and you are wishing you brought one from home while they get them restocked.

Good disposable razors- don’t want to lose the shave game!

I’m currently active duty and am wondering if it would be smart to get Type 3 NWUs & new boots before I go to ocs. (Currently wearing Type 1s & could use a new pair of boots) Just trying to figure out if it would be worth it to prep them prior to arriving.

Time between getting a pro-rec and getting orders to arrive at OCS can vary greatly- can be up to 12 months or more. Word of advice, don’t quit your day job. What does expire often in the process is your medical clearance so be prepared to repeat. While you are waiting, run, do proper form push-ups, lots of burpees and sit ups. Passing IST and getting through First Friday is no joke.

Good evening all,
Anyone that has recently been to OCS able to comment on the current running shoe policy. I have read in the thread and the OCS website that they are issuing running shoes as well as recommend bringing another pair of our own shoes. For the IST and other evaluated running events, are all students running in issued shoes, or are we able to run in our own shoes. If they are requiring issued shoes to be used for events, does anyone know the actual shoe that is being issued? I would like to start running in that model if that is the case. Thank you for your help everyone.
