From what I’ve seen on here, yes multivitamins, but other things like ibuprofen and stuff no, not initially until you’re able to go to the NEX.
When I was there, multivitamin and vitamin D supplements were good, but literally everything else was prescribed. I had to get prescribed eye drops for dry eyes and Flonase bc I showed up in May and everyone was sneezing lol

Right you have to get it prescribed otherwise you can’t have it. Luckily, my Flonase, allergy meds and Prilosec are all prescribed.

Does the OCS doc prescribe stuff that you might need like eye drops or acne stuff in my case? Or did you show up beforehand with a prescription?

If you have a prescription, you should bring it. If you go to sick/SMART, you should be able to ask for stuff if you need it.

I got prescribed eye drops bc the eye doc for the flight physical recommended I use them. I got some Flonase after going to sick call and sneezing a bunch

Sounds like someone neglects to learn from their coaches. Unless you aren’t built like every other human in the world there’s no reason you can’t learn how to swim. You’re also joining the navy.. learn to swim.. not to be negative

There were a few people in my original OCS class who couldn't swim well, I think they took lessons at the pool there until they could pass their 3rd class swim qual. You only need to be able to swim 50 yards (any stroke), do the abandon ship jump, and dead man float for 2 minutes. It really wasn't too bad, and I hadn't been in a pool for about 5 or so years at that point.

The water survival training in Pensacola is a different thing tho, it's more advanced and you'll definitely need to prepare for it if you're not a great swimmer

You'd be surprised at how many people get put in remedial swim here in Pensacola because their 4 basic strokes aren't up to standards

I myself got put in remedial swim because I couldn't figure out the vest and gloves float/tread and needed extra help

I know how it is. I went through basic to enlist. It’s the same thing, really isn’t a big deal. I just find it hard to believe people can’t learn to swim with hired coaches, without giving an excuse.

It's been about a year since I did it, but here's a rough outline:

- 25 yards of the four basic strokes: front crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and backstroke
- 25 yards of the four basic strokes, but in a flight suit
- 2 minute tread, 4 minute dead man float in a flight suit
- 2 minute tread, 5 minute dead man float in flight suit, harness, gloves, and boots
- 2 minute tread, 6 minute dead man float in full gear and helmet
- Tower to line: an abandon ship jump from 5 meter tower and an underwater swim for about 15-20ish yards
- 75 yards breaststroke in full gear and helmet
- Various survival exercises including swimming under simulated fires and creating various flotation devices
- 1 mile swim in flight suit (done in under 80 minutes)
- CPR/First Aid training and certification
