sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

A couple questions popped into my head today, so this is a two parter. For some context, my OCS class date is October 4th

1. Since I was given my ship date a few days ago, I knew it was going to overlap with my birthday (Go me). I was wondering if there is any sort of special tradition that occurs for people who's birthday's occur during OCS

2. Again, since my OCS class date is so late into the year, I was wondering what the whole process is when national holidays, in my case, Xmas and New Years come up. What happens during those types of holidays?

1. Nope.

2. There’s a command wide stand down where no training will take place for around ~2 weeks. You may be able to take leave and go home during that time, you should have 5 days built up by the stand down. It’s subject to approval.

You probably can find answers to both on this forum / thread if you take the time and look.

On a local front, I would ask your recruiter to hook you up wiry an OHARP ENS or two to help you out in person.

1. Nothing special will happen

2. There will be a stand down that starts before Christmas and ends after the New Year. The exact dates for the stand down will probably not be decided until late November or early December. Important to note, the stand down will be split up into two blocks, one for Christmas and one for New Years. Half of your class will go on the first block and the second half your class will go on the second block since there still needs some students. Come to the realization now that you might not come home for Christmas. For leave, they will allow you to go into negative for the leave, so you will be able to take the whole week if you want to. Your leave will be submitted with a paper request chit, so it is unlikely that you will be charged for your leave. It has been over four months since I submitted mine and I still have have not lost any leave days.
