Surgery Before OCS...is the date flexible?

I ask this question because my recruiter doesn't seem to know much about it.

I may or may not end up getting my left wrist operated on. Depending on when the surgery happens (if it does), it could screw up my ability to get in shape before OCS because I won't be able to do push ups again until well after the surgery.

The last thing I need is to show up to OCS and be out of shape in the push ups department. Has anybody had any luck with getting an OCS date pushed back because of something like this?

Also, what would I do if there was a glitch in the paperwork or something and I got a phone call saying, "You have to show up in a week. See you in Pensacola" while being still out of shape because of the surgery?

Worth another shot...so nobody's had a similar experience that they'd like to tell me about either on here or through PM? I'd appreciate it.

Tiz, I doubt I could do that because last year I had the surgery on my right hand and I had to wear a brace for a while. Who knows if the brace was really necessary or if the guy was just being on the safe side.

He also had me taking percosetts, so apparently the wrist can be a little banged up after the surgery. I wouldn't know though because I couldn't feel a thing.:D

I'll ask the doctor when I see him.

You might want to see a surgeon that deals with alot of athletes. They tend to give you the no sh!t honest truth about what you can and can't do. They will understand the situation alot better and will help you plan accordingly. I've found alot of doctors tell you to plan your life around what they believe is most important, while others plan your treatment around what you think is most important.

When I was at OCS last year a guy in my class got held back because he had surgery within the last 6 months.

According to him, he couldn't commission w/n 6 months of having surgery so he had to sit in hold status for three weeks. Maybe it was his specific surgery, but it would be something I would check out if I were you.
