Is it true that some use vasoline under the flight suit to ease the friction during the mile swim? Ive heard both ways and was wondering if that is a beneficial option or not allowed, etc.

Its allowed. Its benificial to some, and doesn't make a difference either way to others. I wore underarmour under the flight suit. It worked well also.

I wore a T-shirt, no lube, and it worked well. I'd definitely wear something underneath. It's a bit warmer, but it's worth the annoyance.

Just wear an inside-out t-shirt under it so you don't have any seams rubbing in your armpits. You won't look like you're lubing up for some deranged activity, and it won't require anything special other than parting w/ a shirt that you don't care if it gets chlorine bleached.

The mile swim is just long and boring. Try not to watch the clock too much when you're swimming. I had more problems with the helo dunk than the mile swim.

If you have fair Irish skin, this might be an issue. If you're a calloused Pollock like myself, they'll have to replace the flight suit after it gets chafed from your firm nipples.

I got stashed at the pool and the only failures I saw were because of injury and cheating (don't try to rest by standing in the shallow end).

I cant believe people actually tried resting in the shallow end. I'll admit, it is a little ackward swimming from deep end to shallow end without touching the bottom since you unconsciously want to put your feet down. But why people would cheat is beyond me.

Everyone leave, I have to poop. NOW!!!
So what happened to the cheaters? Were they given a pink sheet and tested again?

The only ones I know of who cheated did so because they were stuck in a group of 10 on a corner and just instinctively put his feet down. It is harder than it sounds not to put your feet down when swimming and you can't go forward...

Anyway, the cheaters were not given a pink sheet, just forced to go in and swim a mile EVERY day for five days, the last of those counting as a retest...

That sounds like it could happen to anyone (except for naturally more advanced swimmers who don't worry about this anyway).

How crowded are the lanes during the mile swim?
