TAD or PCS?

I read earlier about how for some going to NASP is typically not a PCS, which affects entitlements. If there are any guys that did API through lateral transfer, did you get PCS orders?

Hypothetically speaking, I come from an overseas base to NASP and it's not a PCS what do I do with all my stuff that's overseas? Will I continue to get overseas rate BAH/COLA? Seems outrageous and PCS would make more sense, but I am confused based on what I've read on here... maybe someone can enlighten me.

When the personal property move gets set up you can always put the stuff into long term storage. Then when you PCS to an ultimate duty station where you will be stationed for a while you can have it delivered. Do you want all of your stuff with you at NASP? What do your orders say? Do they specify a follow on PCS location? If the orders are TDY then you should be entitled to some kind of per-diem until you actually PCS, but I don't know about drawing overseas BAH/Cola.

^^^ That's how I think it would work. ^^
I'm finishing up my grad school right now and I PCSed here, so I ought to PCS out. If you're coming from another duty station (vice coming from OCS/TBS/stash) you should definitely get follow-on orders for Primary. That's what I was told, at least. I'll know for sure once I get orders...

Which brings me to my threadjack question: I was told by the detailer that I couldn't get orders until 1mo before my grad program was set to end. So I called him up yesterday and was told to send him a bunch of info via email. If there's anyone with some experience in this matter, how long should I expect it to take for me to get orders? I know that usually orders take a while, but he sounded like they'd get me out of here quickly, unless they like the idea of having a stashed LTJG w/ Boston BAH.

You'll lose your COLA but hold onto your BAH. When I moved from HI the COLA stopped on the date of transfer, but since I didn't check in for another 40 days, I was getting HI BAH the whole time.

I would guess (read: I don't know) that you'll be PCS'ed since you're not on a set of appointment orders since you're already commissioned. The reason guys aren't PCS'ed from their commissioning place is because they are on appointment orders which don't rate the PCS (STA-21/ECP excluded).

I met a 0-2 down here who transfered into Aviation off a boat in Norfolk and he had follow on orders to Whiting Field which allowed him to PCS to PCOLA.

You should get PCS'd because you're coming from a permanent duty station. I, as well, did a masters for my first assignment, and thus was PCS'd.

As I understand it, however, you can only do it once up through Primary. NASP is considered temporary duty and you're not at your next permanent duty station until Primary. You'd probably want to get follow on orders, because they might not move your stuff until they know where you're going for Primary (definitely not sure on this... only know that I had follow on orders to Whiting and PCS'd with full DLA no problem). Regardless, you don't want to move your stuff to P'Cola, then find out you're going to Corpus for Primary, and risk the Navy not being willing to move you.

You do get PCS'd for Advanced (thank God). I don't know about DLA for that, though...

You will get DLA for a PCS as long as household goods were moves. 2nd and subsequent DLA in a FY is at a reduced rate though.

OK, disregard Threadjack question. I got my orders this morning. Report NASP NLT 21 Sep / Follow-on orders to Whiting - And as far as I can decipher order-speak, it's a PCS move to Whiting. Wahoo! Floribama, here I come!

Snake, I'll let you know what I learn when I find out moving details. Probably not until Monday, though. Thesis beckons...

It may be a PCS move to Whiting, but know that doesn't really mean much more than getting your goods moved to FL. Don't expect DLA nor a move from your API location to your Whiting location, since NPA and NSE/NDZ are w/in the magic window to give you nothing.

Yeah, I'm definitely not expecting it. Since my A-pool wait will be minimal (I only have to wait to get my NAMI before classing up because I'm coming from grad school), I'm just going to let them put my stuff in storage and I'll stay in the Q... if there's space, I guess.

Q... if there's space, I guess.

Might want to look into something off base. I'm almost positive the Q's full.

Don't worry about paying for lodging, though. Anyone with follow-on orders to Whiting is getting sick per diem right now...

I thought that I had PCS orders here but I was wrong. I learned a lot at the PSD breif. If you're a pilot, you have TAD orders, period, end of story even if you see "permenant duty station" written on your orders. If your a NFO, you have PCS orders. If you're a pilot and you happen to be hear for longer than 6 months, then you can go to PSD and have your orders changed to PCS orders and get the extra compensation that comes with it so keep all of your receipts for your move. You'll get compensated for your moving truck (if you choose to rent one), gas moving here, and up to 600 lbs of stuff. You can move more if you want (I moved 3500 lbs of stuff down), but they only compensate you for 600 lbs. If you have follow on orders, then you are also entitled to per diem only if you can prove that you aren't living any where permenatly (i.e. sign a lease for an apt) so if you have follow on orders, move into a friend's extra bedroom or find a house that has an extra bedroom for rent.

Does this apply to initial appointment orders, or change duty orders? Because I've got the latter, and I'm probably only going to be in Pensacola for about 2 months.

My orders say things like "Intermediate Activity," "Ultimate Activity," and "PCS accounting data" with all kinds of numbers that I had to transcribe on my PCS transfer paperwork yesterday. You're telling me that that was all a waste of time?

JollyGreen - thanks for the heads-up.

Riiight, don't count on that either. I came from grad school last year, got down to API in June, didn't class up for API till end of September.
