Tattoos: Getting, not removing.

I hate to ask... but on exactly what criteria do they make that determination?

It's not that you walk in and upon seeing your face they decide whether or not they will tattoo you, but generally speaking a top tier artist isn't going to be doing a lot of tramp stamps and barb wire. Generally speaking if you wanted that they would refer you to another artist or another shop.

I am sitting in tap class taking notes for him, as he passed out from boredom.

JUST BIG BOOBS. And redheads.

Someone named "Christina Hendricks" seems to be a popular search term

How can I make this thread more awkward?
OP, I'm assuming by now you're sorry you asked.

No Sir. I appreciate the gentleman who referred me to Black Sparrow. I have heard (and read) a lot of arguments for and against. I've wanted the same tat since I first started OCS, and don't believe that what you get inked under your clothes has any more bearing on your professionalism (perceived or otherwise) than what color boxers an individual wears. With respect to the officers who are trying to discourage me from getting one, I believe that as long as the tattoo is on your torso, it will remain unnoticed by future potential employers.

I am concerned about how a tattoo may affect the upcoming drawdowns as well as career designation. I would appreciate it if anyone with more info on the subjects could educate me. My OSO had tattoos and never resisted them in his OQR (he said it is not required). How would the USMC know one way or the other?

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post.

Get it done at your own risk. When tattoos gets listed in the USMC version of "the tank" at a selection or retention board, don't say you were not warned.

Can't speak to USMC, but if you are supposed to report tats, and don't.. not sure how that will be received. Possible it will be very front office dependent.

I listed every tattoo (six) on my flight physical and SERE work, as that's Identifying Features and it's one way they identify remains should the need arise. It's not otherwise recorded in my service record. You can't see them in the picture in my record, which is all a board is ever going to see. I suppose it might matter if ever somebody who knows me stands up in the Tank and yells to everyone "You can't promote that guy! He has TATTOOS!"

I know lots of people who think officers shouldn't get ink, but that's a different question than whether it'll ever be held against you professionally.
