We should never have gotten rid of Rosey Roads. When I was in PR a few years ago doing CNT Ops, whenever the locals found out the Navy was in town, they asked the same question: "Is Roosevelt Roads coming back?" Shutting that base down tanked the local economy and I think many of the older generation are regretting that decision now.

They pretty much did it to themselves by inviting Rev Al Sharpton to foment dissent over use of the Vieques target range. They got want they wanted....shutting down Vieques which led to ADM Natter deciding that without Vieques, the Navy could save a lot of money by pulling out altogether. Great example of “Careful what you wish for”...

100%. The same people wanting to bring back Rosey Roads also expressed that same opinion. They largely blamed themselves for their shortsightedness.
