List isn’t too different from heel during close hauled with a decent breeze. Boat displaces 28.5k, and a lot of that weight is in the keel which counters the delta between the front row and the back row (on the other side of centerline).

The Grumman F7F first flew in late 1943 and the first combat-ready squadron arrived on Okinawa in August of 1945, so the aircraft just missed WW2 action. The F7F-3N night fighter version did see action in Korea with VMF(N)-513 from 1951-52. But overall, the Tigercat's record was brief. Its contributions to West Coast firefighting were more substantial in the 1960s and 1970s. Here's a converted F7F firebomber with a large tank on the belly.

I went to see the new/overhauled exhibit on the Wrights at the NASM (part of their general reno of the museum as a whole) not too long ago. Really interesting and well done. It's cool that they've brought the 1903 Flyer down to ground level (so to speak) so you can really get a look at it.
