My parents finally got around to sending this to me; it was in my grandfather's effects. He was on N-Class destroyers in WW2.

He painted watercolor as a hobby, but I don't think he drew this. From what I can tell, the inscription says:

"26 [unknown] 23-7-45
Loading from Supply Ship
Steve Astley [unknown] HMAS Nepal 72"

My grandfather was on the Nepal during that timeframe, but neither of those names is his.

Is this the same bird that has been slowly making its last rounds about (see what i did there?) vancouver island/BC over the summer/fall? Or was that another water bomber retirement? I feel like some of our TPS guys flew this thing off lake mead or something, is that right?

Also, is this stop/final landing at Alameda? I am not super smart on Bay Area geography, but that doesnt look like Moffett to me, given the abeam positioning with the city

It may be her sister ship that you are thinking of, she made her final flight last summer and did the rounds about BC before she landed the final time.

Here she is escorted by the RCAF Snowbirds on her final flight.
