The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

First, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think E26 is in the military yet. Even if he was, the flag means he's an American (which is probably pretty easy to figure out based on his accent) not that he's in the military.

Second, I speed clicked through that brief, but I don't remember it saying that having a small American flag on your gear was prohibited. Wearing your uniform out by yourself in a bad part of town--something different entirely.

It's not what's prohibited or what isn't. It's about not being a fucking target! Use your head, don't flaunt the fact that you are a foreigner, by yourself, in a bad part of town. You take your crank out and hit it with a hammer often, or only when you're overseas?

It may not be prohibited, but it sure as shit is poor headwork.

Noone's saying it's prohibited, but flaunting your American-ness abroad is not subtle and generally bad headwork.

Edit: Holy shit we are on the same wavelength... kind of sat on hitting submit for a few minutes there...

Had To Break It Out...

A couple of cold fronts raced through the Florida Keys recently...plunged the overnight low temp down to the upper fifties...forced me to break mine out:

Whoa, I'm impressed with not only your jacket, but graphics/posting-fu. You getting tutored?

Taught me much re using our AW forum.

Actually...as a photographer, made $$$, supplied many retailers with my work, got published locally (NE Florida), tutored other photographers, was a player on photo forums...until first wife's death, coinciding with the digital age and some burnout...caused me to "retire" from that effort.

Got some few Kodachrome slides re USN to get digitalized...will have them up on site in the future.

As an administrator for FSO (see sig)...I handle their photo page...seem to be the only one able to rx, do the necessary (elementary) photo shopping, and post them up on our site. Matter of fact, will spend most of today working with them at a big Christmas event up in Islamorada (FL Keys) later today...followed by several other events later this month...NO REST FOR THE WEARY!!

Not everyone that wants to kill you wants or even needs to talk to you. If you broadcast you are an American, one whackjob can spot you and call ahead to the one that will do the damage.

Next time, don't spped click through that brief. It's one intended to save your life. Might want to listen to Bubba, C420 and Beans. Don't expect every thing to be in black and white that you need to know. Guidelines are one thing, but common sense should always prevail.

Exactly, I believe someone here once said "just because I can tie my balls to my shoes and run a marathon doesn't mean it's a good idea"

Don't be that guy, be the wily bogey.

I say hell yeah, wear the American flag on the pack. I hate those D-bags who pretend they are Canadian and put a Canadian flag on their packd.....
For 30 years ... my 2-3 airline BRAIN-BAGs were adorned w/ USN, A-4, A-6, 'been there', and American Flag stickers ... amongst other things that 'mattered' to me ...

I wanted all those M-Fuckers overseas to KNOW that I was a product of American sunshine ... :)

I knew the potential 'risks' ... and I decided to do what I did ...

What about passing out on a couch in Dalewood wrapped in an American flag?

I'm with those above... I wouldn't advertise that you are an American overseas... You can be patriotic and proud of where you came from without walking around waving an American flag and flaunting it.

> 40 years military & civilian ... a proud American in the Far East, other areas all around the globe, and in 'every gin joint in every port' in the world ... no 'flaunting' ... no 'advertising' ... just knowing my own limitations ... knowing my surroundings ... and knowing 'the score' ...

You boys do what you want -- you do what makes your world go 'round ...

I'll do it my way.
:)
