The Monster COD thread (homage to the C-2A Greyhound)

I hope you're good at holdin' it, because there's very few things more unpleasant than taking a crap in a Greyhound bus. :D Other than that, I've never had a really bad experience, unless you count bad traffic.

No personal experience but my brother and my ex-girlfriend each rode Greyhound and had nothing but bad things to say. The highlight of their experiences was when my ex rolled into Salt Lake City in the middle of the night and the driver for the bus was scheduled to switch out for the next leg. The off-going driver proceeded to get in a massive fistfight with the oncoming driver and the cops/paramedics were called. They showed up and the oncoming driver proceeded to get in a fistfight with the paramedics. The result was her being stranded in SLC for 6 hours while the two drivers were arrested and Greyhound scrounged around for another meathead to drive their bus. Moral of the story, if you have to travel by bus, find a way to be unconcious the entire trip if possible. I recommend massive amounts of alcohol :D

The Hound....I used to work in one of their bus stations while going to school in Colorado. 1500-2230, good time to be doing calculus homework. Also a good time to meet some tranvestites on their way to see Dr. Biber for that special cut. They were pretty easy to spot, nicely dressed, one way ticket to Trinidad, CO., and huge adam's apples. I once caught two lesbians doing what they do in the bathroom just prior to close up. Got threatened with a baseball bat, some gay guy asked me about my package. Need I say more? I will neve set my carcass in another Greyhound bus...not ever.

Another option is that there are companies which seek responsible individual drivers to transport cars from one destination to another. I've only heard about it in passing but I did a quick google search and came across "autodriveaway". I don't know much about this particular company but I had a friend that discussed posting an ad to advertise his availability to drive a car across country, in return, he got a nice car to use for his road trip.

I despise greyhound. First free weekend out of bootcamp, I take one from South Carolina to, ironically, Knoxville (close to where I grew up). Seeing as I hadn't been on liberty yet, I'm traveling in my whites. The trip was over a Friday night/Saturday morning, so it was actually fairly quiet.

What was shitty was at one transfer station, somehow the bus was overbooked for the next transfer, and they way they determined who got a seat was who was first in line, and the line was already full as we got off of the first bus. Of course, there was enough room for luggage under the bus, so my bag got sent on to Knoxville. This was at 2 am, and the only recourse they gave was, "you can wait for the next bus" at noon the following day. I ended up getting swapped over to another bus for Chattanooga, which is about 2-2.5 hours from the one in Knoxville, and I ended up getting to Chattanooga about 4 hours later than I should've been in Knoxville. Oh, and I didn't get my bag until I had gotten back to Charleston. Thank god it was my seabag and I had put my lock on top, otherwise I probably wouldn't have had anything left.

All that said, have fun!

I once took the bus from NYC to Philly. A nice "woman" sat down next to me. "She" was taller than me, had bigger hands than me, a lower voice than mine and more hair on her legs...

Wow, that is hilarious. Unfortunate, but hilarious.

Do any of you guys have Fung Wah in your part of the country? They run a regional route from Boston to NYC for something like $10, and they're constantly in the news for things ranging from major mechanical malfunctions to people cooking food over a gas burner in their seats. I've even heard reports on the radio about live chickens running freely around the bus.

Good luck. The last time I was on a greyhound bus (and I SWORE it would be my last), there was a drunk dude who was screaming for at least 3 hours of the 5 hour ride that he had a knife and was going to fvcking kill someone if they didn't give him space......seriously. And the bus driver never even so much as told him to shut up. Great entertainment.

Between Fung Wah and Lucky Star, there have been a lot of those horror stories... I think they only do the Chinatown (NYC) to Chinatown (BOS) route, though. One of them rolled a bus not too long ago.
