BINGO!!!You could also save some money by renting a cheap apartment in the low-rent part of town. But there's a reason you don't do that.
You took the bus with your mother?
I tried that once, it's ridiculously expensive (like $250/day) unless they have a car that's from TN that needs to be returned. Good idea though, if Southwest doesn't work for you - if it was me, I'd use my POV and rent a trailer from U-Haul. It's 8 1/2 hours there, so 17 hours round trip. 3 hours more than if you took greyhound, probably comparable price - and you can almost guarantee you won't get shanked.Have you priced out renting a cheap car one way?
Picked up a sweet Kawasaki Concours for the wife and I to do some trips on. She's a few years old, (2001) but only has 4300 miles on the clock.

Let see...my two cents:
1. Space-A flight?
2. VT-86 x-country?
3. Round trip airfare is usually cheaper than one way.
4. craigslist for a free/or low cost ride-along
5. rent a plane?

Thats not nice. You've met my mother!
Mostly though...I just want to keep hearing people's sketchy Greyhound stories.
