Props are nice on the boat, almost instant throttle response for landings/wave offs.

when I was in API, I ran into a C-2 LT in the library. He said the Navy was looking into replacing the C-2 with Ospreys?

I didn't do a search or read the whole thread, so I apologize if this was already covered.

The Navy is looking to replace the COD with something. Grumman is selling an upgraded C-2 and Bell-Boeing is pushing the V-22.

What is Grumman going to call this one? A C-2A(R)(R)?

The (R) is for Reprocured.

I liked the C-2B concept aircraft with the S-3 Turbo-Fans.

They probably wouldn't be spending the money transitioning them to the 8 bladed props if they were planning on replacing them in the near future.

I'm just saying its pretty safe to say the C-2 airframe will be around for another decade (at the minimum).

Carl Vinson is underway in the Atlantic Ocean conducting flight deck certification after completing its scheduled refueling complex overhaul at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. The overhaul was an extensive yard period that all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers go through near the mid-point of their 50-year life cycle. The CNO flew into Corpus for the day today and spoke to the wing at the base auditorium. One of the advanced squadron IPs asked him about plans to replace the C-2. He said that in a few years they would have to start thinking about what direction they want to go in. In other words, they have given no thought to replacing the C-2 yet. That should give you a pretty good idea how far down the line the COD replacement will be.

Unless you can hang bomb racks on the C-2 or one goes into the drink full of VIP's due to aircraft malfuntion, not going to happen.
