If it is indeed a limpet mine then that's very different than the sterotypical horn mine (ball with spikes). A limpet mine is attached to the hull but historically you need to get pretty close to attach it.
And yes, captor mines are still a thing.

not trolling you, but mines, Iranians, and the gulf aren't really anything new.
Not for sure if you are actually 42 or if you are trolling as 42 is the typical response in "what percent gets what". Either way, I laughed out loud.
CNN's reporting that an Iranian vessel fired a SAM at an MQ-9. Not going to speculate on that in this environment but anyone flying around C5F, be safe.
