Two oil tankers hit in Gulf of Oman

Saudis blame Iran but announce they don’t want war. Not sure how this plays out in the Gulf region. If it’s perceived by Iran as a sign of weakness, it’s not going to deter future aggression. Riyadh has already looked the other way on MRBMs launched from Yemen. How much more will KSA tolerate before they conduct a proportional response?

If the neighborhood bully sucker punches you in the face a few times, do you go back after him or do you keep picking on his little cousin down the street?

Yemen’s not proportional because Yemen’s not Iran.

Huh?

Not sure if serious, but there was more going on than just MTS work. But at less than a nautical mile (even with EGI slant error), seems like decent video.
I was serious, it looks better than most of what I've seen on post-flight DVR footage. I did however, neglect to look at the range readout.

This L.A. Times article https://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-pol-us-iran-tanker-war-lessons-costs-20190618-story.html has the following quote:
"The American fleet no longer has the number of large frigates that worked the Persian Gulf in the 1980s, often serving as ad hoc minesweepers thanks to their girth and reinforced hulls, Brennan said."

Would anyone care to tell me which class of frigates had a "reinforced" hull? I can assure you the Know class FF's of that era had nearly tissue paper thin hulls!

I wonder if they misquoted him or if he really said that (retired JAG CAPT, not a line officer but still oughta know the difference).

The funny part is the LA Times website gave me one of those "our website uses cookies" guilt popups. I guess dipshit reporting doesn't come for free!!

Ah, gotcha. It always seemed like the MTS had two DTV video modes. One was decent if the sun is in the right place. The other makes everything look like a late '90's internet streaming porn with poor lighting.

No joke, last frigate I deployed on they poked a hole in their own hull taking a sounding on a fuel tank. We were technically sinking for a week.

I was on a DD that had a fire in one of the berthing compartments, care of a sloppy old repair job on a GTG bleed air pipe. I was on a gator that had a fuel leak in the main engine room so bad that the fuel was ankle-deep in some places... oh and we went DIY from the emergency shutdown for that because the other plant was already shutdown when it happened. As a dumb aviator it's hard to judge just how severe the leak was, but the white-haired CHENG did use the phrase "worst fuel leak he had ever seen."

Not trying to one-up your sea stories though, least of all the ones from the frigate navy. Dev's comment about "Tuesday" is in line with all the other stories I've heard. Good times!!
