Prepare to laugh - the Marine Shop convinced me that I needed a tanker jacket. It still has the tags on it.

I actually wear it fairly often (well, more than the 1-3x yearly that my service and dress coats get). It's a decent overlayer for chucks when standing duty overnight or freezing in an over-A/C'd building - I got mine in Pensacola and don't regret it.

But I did bite off on the jewelry box at OCS. Dumbass.

You're an aviator, wear your nomex or leather jacket. Don't be gay.

Yeah, my barracks cover sits next to my all weather coat, which lays on top of my overpriced POS "motivated" jewelry box.

Damn that all weather coat that the SPCs' said we had to have.....what a waste of money. :icon_rage

Per the uniform regs, you do have to have it. I know a lot of people don't, but this is one case where the SPCs weren't shitting you.

Didn't even know that was an option (with chucks), and some folks I know won't touch the leather jacket until winging.
And they're gay. Yes - Nomex and Leather are both authorized for wear with Chucks. I would wear my Chucks every once and a while to the battalion just to see the former DI gunnys lose their shit when I was wearing my leather jacket, especially since it was authorized. I stand by my assertion that my tanker jacket was a waste of friggin' money.

3. The flight jacket may be worn with the service uniform by only those Marines properly issued and required to maintain an authorized flight jacket according to existing regulations. The flight jacket may be worn with the service "B," "C," and service with sweater uniforms. These uniform combinations will only be worn on base, or while traveling in a private/government vehicle between local military facilities, or to and from a domicile. While traveling outside a military installation no stops are permitted. The jacket will not be worn when the service "A" uniform is considered more appropriate, nor will it be worn on leave or liberty, or with the utility uniform or civilian clothing. When the flight jacket is worn with the service uniform, only one unit/squadron (CNO/CMC approved) patch may be worn. The patch, if worn, will be on the right front of the jacket, level with the nametape on the left side.

4. Listed are the four types of flight jackets authorized with the service uniform:
a. Jacket, flying, men's intermediate, type G-1 (leather)
b. Jacket, suits, flying, winter (green, poopie suit liner)
c. Jacket, flyers, cold weather, fire resistant (AF CWU-45 sage green)
d. Jacket, flyers, cold weather, fire resistant (AF CWU-36 sage green)
You have been educated - do right by the wing my son!

I went down and dug out my AWC from the basement the other day. We haven't been admonished to buy it, but TBS/MCBQ is now wearing bravos EVERY Friday during cold SOP. I don't have a tanker jacket, not going to buy a tanker jacket, and the walk from LZ-7 to Graves is dark and cold. Therefore, the vintage 2000 AWC is both functional and makes for a great joke.

...and I rib my roomates all the time for their jewelry boxes. I thought that was one of the more assinine things I saw at OCS, but to each his own I guess.

I know that's the way it is, but that doesn't mean it isn't a waste of money.

I just think our uniforms are way to expensive.
I bought mine from the uniform store at TBS and despite not buying the package, I still think it came out to about $1,600. Mind you, I was able to convert my enlisted Alphas and I also did not buy the SAM BROWNE.
For the new guy, if you can borrow a sword from a senior or junior company please do. An old friend came to borrow mine because he did not buy one. I do not think he will ever need to buy one unless he goes to MCRD.

Tanker jackets are good for those going to Recruiting or OSO duty.

I also did not buy the sand brown.

Are you talking about the SAM BROWNE belt?

I got a tanker jacket while I was a MECEP student and wearing Charlies at least once a week. Before that I never needed one and since then I have never needed one.

When you have a leather jacket, everything else is a waste of money, right?

Disclaimer: The last line was sarcasm. My leather jacket is still in my closet with the tags on it.

This is a semi-related thread question... has anyone in Quantico or elsewhere actually RECEIVED the new track-suit looking PT uniform issue? We were supposed to get them in October, but as per SOP, that didn't happen.

Well, non-flyers like myself really do not have any other jacket outside of the tanker jacket.
If I need one in the future, I might buy one from someone on here and help clean out the closet.

I'm not saying you're wrong (about that) but expounding on my use of a tanker jacket. I'm sure, however, that you do get much use of your tanker jacket in CF, IQ.

The leather jacket shall not be worn off base, even with Charlies. If you want to be warm outside the wire, get the tanker jacket.
