IMHO, Adm Stavridis is a king of generalists. Not the worst trait for a career whatever the field is, but no deep insights at all. I didn't find some.
 
Just saw this recommended by Tom Ricks on Foreign Policy and grabbed it at Barnes and Noble - will see how it goes: "American War" by Omar El Akkad.

Great read about an Air Force officer transitioning from AMDO to Air Guard pilot. Really interesting on a woman's point of view from war.

The book also details the amount of ingenuity and work that went in to making Merrimack into Virginia. Making the armor for her consumed much of Tredegar's output for some time and the act of shipping the armor from Richmond to Portsmouth caused a great deal of disruption to the southern rail net work.
 
I was given a copy of Carrier Pilot recently as a graduation present, and enjoyed it. The author was a Corsair pilot with the Fleet Air Arm. He has a very British sense of humor.
