You're ASTB carries the most weight. A high score on the ASTB is your best bet. There was a guy in one of the last boards that had a 2.6 GPA but a 64 8/6/7 ASTB and got picked up.

No, this is not the place to put it. Being that you're a long-time lurker, you should have seen the "WHAT NRC CONSIDERS COMPETITIVE" thread, where competitive stats are listed and where folks can list their own.

Otherwise, there's people like yourself who keep posting "Hey guys where do I stack up?" every single day.

What's going on everyone? Figure I'd jump in.

Looking at: Supply/SWO-Intel
Age: 26 (turning 27 in a month)
College/Major: Vanderbilt U, B.A. in Mathematics, GPA: 3.01
ASTB: 69, 8/6/8

I also have a graduate degree in Int'l Politics that I earned overseas and have been doing some part-time work for the last couple of years. Haven't had a whole lot of good work experience and my GPA isn't great (from an elite university though) but I hope it gets offset by my ASTB score which, as I understand, is pretty solid. I previously applied for Intel once and did not get selected, then I took the ASTB again (had a 67 last time). I get that my GPA is a bit low for Intel, though, so I'm looking more at Supply as my first choice. Unfortunately I aged out otherwise I'm fairly certain I would've been picked up for any aviation designators.

My main question is - does anyone know anything about SWO-Intel, specifically, the selection rate? My recruiter wasn't able to give me much information about it. I'm reading on other parts of the forum that barely anybody ever gets picked up for the SWO-IDC option. Is it even worth putting on an application? Or should I just do Supply as no. 1, SWO (without the IDC option) as no. 2, and Intel as no. 3?

Reason why your recruiter wasn't able to give much information is because the program DOESN'T EXIST. There is no such thing as SWO-Intel, only SWO-IW and SWO-IP. For those two programs, they normally give them to regular IW and IP applicants who were on the cusp of being selected but still wanted an opportunity to serve and ultimately into the respective community.

Don't bother putting in Intel/IP/IW. Stick with SWO because that's really the one designator you have a shot at.

Thanks for the info. Looking to meet with my recruiter sometime next week and put the finishing touches on my kit so it's ready as soon as NRC starts accepting applications.

Hello, I too am wondering how competitive I will be.

Package for: SNA/NFO
Age: 27 (Prior Enlisted, will have a 2 year age waiver)
Major: Computer Science BS
GPA: 2.9
ASTB: 57 6/6/5

Background: Prior Service Air Force SSgt/E-5. F-15C/D/E Avionic Systems Technician. Excellent Enlisted Performance Reports. No criminal record/drug use/debt or other complications or negatives.

Just had my interview today with a Navy Captain and it went extremely well. I couldn't have hoped for a better interview. How much does this weigh into the process?

I didn't do as well on the ASTB as I had hoped, but it was my first time taking it, and I graduate in December so if I need to I could retake. However, my recruiter is a LOT more enthusiastic about my scores and chances and she wants to put me up for the October board. She mentioned that it will be the first board of the fiscal year also which may have some influence on selection rates. I also have individuals who are willing to write me LORs, however she said it would not be necessary.

you will have a chance, but how much of a chance will depend on all the other guys that apply.

The biggest thing will be your ASTB scores, otherwise that interview carries little weight.

Thank you.

Since I can't retake the ASTB until after the board meets in October, is there any downside to simply giving it a shot with the scores I have?

Ready too see my dream come a reality
Will be putting in my SWO package this fall. Wondering how competitive my package is?

SWO/INTEL applicant
Quals: EXW/IW/SW
School: American Military University
Age: 28
G.P.A 3.2 International Relations
Active Duty Navy: 7.5 years
LORs: (3) O-5 Intel, O-6 Seal and CO endorsement
Interviews: (3) O-5 (CO DDG), O-5 (CO LSD), O-5 (INTEL)
OAR: 50
Intelligence Specialist (Second Class)
Waivers: (Age for SWO)
Evals: P (new command), EP, EP
Awards: 3 NAMs

Got an excellent recommendation from my CO and received all tens from my interviews. Current collaterals are ACFL and Security Manager for my command. In my last three periodic evals I have over 100 plus hours in community service. I also "breaked out" in first EP EVAL (4 OF 33) Received a transfer EP and also states in EVAL it would of been another break out EP as well.

My concerns are my P EVAL, but really hard to break out when your evaluation period is only 4 months and trying to qualify for the job. COC has told me it should not be looked down upon since i just arrived at the command.

I am currently finishing up my Computer Networking and Cyber Security degree at UMUC. I am 9 classes from graduating and currently on schedule to graduate before my next deployment. Going though the IWC stats, program Authorization 108C and other documents, I keep seeing the calc is preferred. I do not need to take calculus to finish my degree, however UMUC offers both Calc I and II. Would it be beneficial for me to take those classes or continue on with my required classes for my cyber degree? Any advice would be appreciated

Very Respectfully,

CTI2(EXW/IW) Ledbetter

Unless you plan on just applying for Intel you should take not just Calc I and II put also Calc based Physics I and II, it is rare for a person to get picked up for IP or CW that doesn't have a STEM degree and 2 of the 3 that were coded as non STEM were probably due to the course work, it is very possible the Biology major took Calc but didn't need to take calc based physics as I knew several biology majors that were in that same situation, same with the Comp Sci and Tech Mgt type degrees.
