Which watch?

I have a policy on my X-33 with USAA, but I wouldn't recommend guns. I had mine on with USAA for a while, but found a much better option, especially when some of my guns are also investment opportunities.

What did you end up using as the value for your X-33? I just added mine (had the Bremont insured, but never got around to adding the X-33). I guesstimated $3500 based on googling.

I said $4k for a round number. Lumped it in with rings and some other stuff with USAA.

When I first got it, I went to an Omega store and asked them what the retail was on it and they told me $3200, so I insured it for that. I probably should update that now since this was in 2003.

Awesome, thanks! I think I'll round up as well.

For high-value watches, I recommend a valuable personal property rider for each individual piece. I individually insure mine by serial number and include pictures of the face and case back along with a scan of the sales slip or appraisal. It takes no more than 5-10 minutes to set up online, and the annual premiums cost about 1% of what you put down as the value of the watch. Well worth it, in my experience.

When I broke my Speedmaster, I told USAA what happened, and that I had already sent it to a repair shop. They said, "No problem, you're covered. Just send the estimate when it comes in." As soon as the estimate got sent, they ponied up the cash (as in within 24 hours.) They will cover repairs up to the listed value on the rider.

So I recently won a used Brietling in a raffle. So, in lieu of a sale receipt, should I do anything to verify its value to USAA, or just have model number and pictures and claim MSRP for the price?

Also, what should I do when receiving a used, high end watch? Should I send it off for a service right off the bat so I know it's good to go, or should I just open it up and wear it?

Regarding servicing...if you don't know its service history, go ahead and have it serviced [imho].

Congrats, man!
