My intent was more bad humor than to insult. It's just that in this 21st century "War on Terrorism" the USCG looks a little like the National Guard during Viet Nam: where you go to be sure you don't get shot [at].
We do different jobs than our brethren in the secondary sea service (smilies) - they do Homeland Defense, we do Homeland Security. We have had units deployed to the Gulf (Port Security Units), as well as LEDETs deployed aboard Navy ships since Gulf War I, and there are cutters that deploy as part of a group of Navy ships. Just so happens, the expertise we bring to the table in this particular conflict fit into (mainly) those categories - boarding vessels and securing ports. Our Homeland Security duties and regular peacetime duties keep us very busy with inspecting/tracking vessels inbound, inspecting cargo, in addition to the usual SAR and LE that we do. We are overworked in those duties, and are begging for add'l funding (so what is new?), with a slow program for updating our assets that is being underfunded.
As for getting shot at...I'm guessing in this "War on Terrorism" that the the Navy, the CG, and the Air Farce have far fewer folks shot at than the Army, the National Guard, and the Marine Corps. Just the nature of this particular conflict.
Wow, what total bad asses!
It seems that the tool colors have shifted.... they are flying proudly on your ship now.
Slow down, shipmate. I think he was just answering the smack that Fog was talking. As far as acting like a tool, the SOPA flag still flies w/Fog.
Back on point, I witnessed the N1 Admiral state something like "the Navy needs to emulate the population it defends" and that 50 some percent of college grads are females, our officer corps should match that.... There is more of this social engineering/color matching coming. TBS instructors are apparently told to recruit certain colored folks for infantry, as there has been a historically low number...
I think whether you agree or disagree with this your issue is not with the instructors or Big Navy, just with who is writing the checks. So write/e-mail/phone your congressmen.
