Hey guys,

First time posting here. I'm shooting to get my packet in for the April 9th board but still haven't gotten an appointment with Denver, CO MEPS. My recruiter has been on top of everything and very communicative with me so I'm feeling pretty lucky. He's said that MEPS should clear my paperwork by the 15th of March and that should give me enough time to get an appointment and submit for April (I have everything ready to go besides the MEPS checkoff).

Is that enough time for MEPS to turnaround my paperwork assuming everything goes smoothly?
I'm going through Denver as well! We probably have the same recruiter, dudes a rockstar haha. As far as MEPS goes, unless you need a waiver for something you should be fine. Like Mouselovr was saying, I would try and give yourself a week or two for MEPS to get your paperwork to N3M and for them to give you the all clear.

it depends, sometimes MEPS finds something iffy, they might ask for more paperwork before your appointment...I think typically 2-3 after you fill up that health form you should have an appointment. After that, when you do go in, make sure you can pee, and if it all goes right N3M should give a letter after couple days...in my case it took less than 24 hrs (but that's because I'm a rockstar).....I think you'll be ok....

Just out of curiosity, what's the average length of everyone's motivational statement? Mine is sitting around 2000 words but I've seen posts of sub 500 word statements and some near 4500. I'm trying not to go overkill on mine as I know its one of the last deciding factors for the board, but I've rewritten and edited it more times than I can count trying to perfect it.

Mine is a hair over 700 words. I'm not sure the length matters, as long as you're not putting the officers on the board to sleep when they read it. Some advice I got that I thought was really good is to not focus on how badly you want to be a pilot/officer/whatever (everyone wants to commission and fly cool planes, otherwise they wouldn't go through the trouble of applying). Instead focus on anything you bring to the table that isn't mentioned elsewhere in your package. There should also be a motivational statement megathread somewhere on the forum that you might find helpful.

That's interesting, on the paper I filled out for the motivational statement it said 500 word limit and that's what my OR told me to do

Mine is about 700 words and filled up the entire motivational statement box of the application processing and summary record.

My recruiter told me to be on the short side as well. He didn’t give me word count but said it should be much closer to one page than two on a word document since he had to fit it all in a specific section of the motivational statement form. Mines at 510 words right now and I was worried that would be too much.

Makes sense to keep it short and concise. I like what Ruvo mentioned about avoiding focus on wanting to fly/become an officer (pretty obvious why we're all here). Looks like I'll be cutting some big chunks out of mine and get it <1000. Don't want to put anyone to sleep.

I can’t remember if it was on the January board or another thread but they did some math about how long the board has to review so many hundred of packages in one day and it came out to like a minute or two so the motivational statement along with LORs usually end up being the make or break for marginal packages. But at the same time, if you write them a novel, they probably aren’t going to read it due to that time constraint.

correct, once an OR gets the inside info they don't worry about the statement too much for SNA, now some other designators it does matter significantly, others in between. I think the best statement one of mine submitted was along the lines of

"I would like to be a pilot in the USN to fly in some of the most challenging conditions a pilot will ever encounter."

Thanks brother! I wasn't happy with the scores I got, yet they are enough to be eligible for the selection process. Only had a month to study after completing my degree, and I'll be submitting my package this week. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Hopefully they take Navy Divers.
