31OCT22 SNA/SNFO BOARD

How does it work if I wanted to enlist while I wait for SNFO board results and ocs ship dates? Email I got from my recruiter says results in November/December and expect OCS ship dates 6-9 months after. I was on the august board but I guess that’s now become the November one haha
You’re going to get a ship date and sign an enlisted contract. The only benefit to doing this is that you’ll get some flight experience I’d you go an AW rate and if you do six years as an E, you’ll be an O1E when you commission, which is extra money in your pocket.

There’s a different respect for formerly enlisted officers, it offers unique perspective and you’ll earn some education points on your advancement exams. Genuinely and honestly, if you’re trying to fly as an officer just stay your course it’s just a better quality of life. My two cents. Been enlisted for 8 now

Hi everyone, first post here as I was recommended to check this out by people on Reddit. I'm applying for this board as well for SNA as I'm sure everyone here is doing as well. For the people a little more experienced with this process I'm wondering if anyone can give me a valid assessment on how competitive I am at this very moment.

So I took the ASTB for the first time with basically no studying last week and scored a 5/6/6 ( I plan to retake first week of September with more studying and at home flight sim time under my belt in hopes of getting 7's.
Junior in college applying for BDCP so I can quit my job and focus on school. Currently have a 3.54GPA working on a mechanical engineering degree. BDCP is the only program I can currently apply for as a junior and my recruiter isn't entirely sure if that puts me in a different category or not applying for a board when I can't even go to OCS till probably sometime in 2024 at the earliest. Maybe even 2025 (I know how backed up things are)
Prior enlisted AME working on F/A18F from 2014-2019. 2 deployments on carriers. Honorable discharge.
Clean record
No flight experience, but working in aviation (including my current job) are all I know.
Thanks everyone and best of luck to you all!

Honestly man it seems like everything beyond your scores plays in your favor. Just make sure you study real hard for the ASTB and nail it and you're probably good.
Thanks! I essentially went into my first take watching a couple of videos on youtube of the UAV trick and a general overview of the exam due to having little notice of taking the exam. Hoped all the math I do in college would help with the math section, which it really didn't. Picked up a study guide and have found the study gouge in addition to the sim on here before I just made this account. Feeling pretty good but I definitely would feel better with triple 7's.

I got an email awhile back, and no official confirm of a cancellation, but all the stars align and allude that it more than likely did

Has anyone here ever looked into Air Force pilot boards and think it’s worth a shot (as a back up)?

For those who aren’t in, if your goal is to fly then I say go for it! The air force does generally only take guys and gals with STEM degrees, from my understanding. But the service is losing pilots left and right, so if you’ve got a competitive package shoot your shot. Worst answer is no. But consistency is key! Keep applying!

Go for it man! It could be a really good opportunity for you. My Air Force recruiter turned on me because of my passing, yet non-competitive GPA and "heavy weight".
For the record, I passed MEPS with the Navy, yet he refused to acknowledge that MEPS is the same for all branches.

Hell yeah man, more power to you. Hope you do well on your next retake.

Something you’ll find out from browsing here is that all 7’s doesn’t carry the weight it used to. Not that 7’s are bad, but it’s more of a toss up if you get selected or not with 7’s. With your background, I wouldn’t sweat it, but it’s just something to take note of when you walk in to take the ASTB again

Good to know. Of course I would LOVE 8's or 9's but I feel 7's are definitely attainable considering I'm pretty sure I only got 6's because I completely screwed up the first emergency procedure. I wrote them down and everything but then I just completely froze and did everything backwards on it. Not my brightest moment. Other 2 I crushed.

If you’ve got the AFOQT and TBAS scores (90s for pilot and TBAS) then go for it. Research the life style and air frames. If you prefer Navy do Navy but if AF appeals to you then you better do it now before you regret getting into the Navy lol

My boss is ex-air force and he said if he could do it all over again he would go Navy. He was a navigator for twenty years. This fact, and the fact that AD Air Force recruiting is an absolute shit show push me Navy.
Yeah honestly good luck getting an airforce officer recruiter to even answer their email once they hit mission
