I agree with those who said that even if the bombs don't work, we should still try. D-Day was about a 50/50 chance of succeeding but had to be done. Also we gain real world data about the bombs' actual capabilities against such a target, which is always good. As long as that regime exists, it will always continue to seek a bomb and build terrorist proxies so the only way to fully end the problem for good would be regime change. Otherwise, it is just about setting them back for a time, whether that be months or years.
As for politics, regarding conservatism and the GOP, remember the GOP does not necessarily adhere to conservatism. It often has been a big government party. Same with a lot of its Christian base. The Christian base and Christianity are not per se the same. The way the base has been over the years, a major obsession of theirs has been homosexuality. You'd think homosexuality was number one in the Ten Commandments and mentioned everywhere in the Bible. Yet, other sins are mentioned far more. Jesus talked about adultery as a sin and it is one of the Ten Commandments, but homosexuality is mentioned far less. Yet, if as a conservative politician it came out you were gay (especially as a man), then that's it. You're done. Whereas if it came out you cheated on your wife, you can make a recovery from that.
That said though, pretty much the only things the GOP seems to restrict are abortion and LGBTQ. On the other hand, the political Left has (d)evolved into a type of fascist party in which other than an unlimited right to abortion and an extremist take on LGBTQ rights, it is all about central control. Everything you can say, do, eat, drink, drive, whether you can own guns, how much money you can make, etc...there is no limit to what they seek to control. Environmentalism and LGBTQ have become a form of secular religion to them. Any questioning of the orthodoxy gets one deemed a fascist/Nazi/hater and they will seek to destroy you. The college campuses, with their campus speech codes, safe spaces, TRIGGER WARNING!'s, lack of due process, etc...are a good example of such fascism.
Thus far the Left have argued that the government can ban political speech (in the name of "campaign finance law"), can ban guns, can mandate you purchase something , can mandate you take a vaccine (by executive diktat), and that a government agency consisting of unelected (and likely ideologically driven) bureaucrats can be given carte blanche to just regulate and micromanage the economy as they see fit.
A great irony is for all the accusations made of Trump and MAGA supposedly being fascists, a primary reason many voted Trump/MAGA is as a rebellion against the fascism of the political-media-Big Business establishment. MAGA itself is not explicitly conservative, and can be quite liberal in certain ways. It combines aspects of the two.
