Looking for a female perspective on OCS

Hi I just have two quick questions! For the swim test at OCS is it in the beginning weeks of arriving? And also do females just wear the one piece swimsuit or are they allowed to wear shorts over the swimsuit as I saw a YouTube video and just wanted to get clarification on that? Thanks in advance!

Swim test is in the beginning weeks. All the girls in my class mutually agreed to wear shorts over our swimsuits in the locker room, the day of....... no one told us to. The uniform regulations specify color/fit but nothing about mandating "shorts".....

I assume you're talking about the required packing list. Tbh, the white and skin toned bras/sports bras/underwear is a formality for uniform inspections. No one is going to be checking the color of your undergarmens. As long as its not obvious under your uniform..... ie maybe don't wear hot pink under your summer whites.

For the swimsuit: I was a competitive swimmer and own a navy blue training suit with a tie back. Is this appropriate? It is a training/ competitive swimmer one piece but the coverage is not entirely full.

Glasses. I wear contacts. Will I be able to wear these the day that I check in? And will I be issued glasses there or will I have to bring some beforehand.

1. No one is gonna look at your sports bras. Just don’t bring anything insanely overly bright that will show through white.

"Optional swimwear will be navy blue or black in color, conservative in design and appearance and must not prohibit the swimmer from swimming freely...
Females. Swimsuit covering the full torso less arms, swimsuit covering full torso and arms or full-body swimsuit covering torso, legs and arms. One-piece swimwear back openings will not extend below the middle of the back."

Direct from MyNavyHR, which lists out uniform standards. Functionally, don't wear anything your grandma would be offended by (as long as its blue or black).

3. From my memory, you cannot wear contacts at OCS. You will be issued glasses there. Hopefully, someone else can chime in on this one with certainty.

Highly recommend doing this to get the most up to date gouge. This forum is great but our gouge is often outdated. A recently commissioned ENS doing OHARP will be the freshest info you can find.

I'm very surprised most recruiters don't do this. Whenever I had OHARPs, especially female and/or NUPOCs, I would give them the names of phone numbers of all my applicants: from those awaiting to go to OCS to the "serious" applicants who are awaiting board or are about to apply. They would call them and field any sort of OCS questions they had. I felt it really helped them out.

Hi! I will be in your DEC 07 class! I primarily wear glasses, but also do have contacts that I am bringing. I spoke with a girl who is on OHARP and she did let me know that you will be issued glasses and contacts can start to be worn after week 9 and during certain trainings (if I remember correctly). I would definitely suggest going ahead and purchase black eyeglass straps since those are mandatory!

As for sports bras, they won't check them, but make sure you have some that are white/nude since the PT shirts are a little see through. Biggest thing with those is to make sure that it's not bright pink or anything crazy

They do issue glasses, however they won’t arrive until around halfway through training. Recommend bringing your own pair to wear in the beginning. You can show up in contacts, but you’ll just stop wearing them the next day. Correct on the contacts beginning in week 9.
