You should have the opportunity to get quite a bit of fixed wing time dependent on some of your tours as a rotary pilot, especially if you swing back to Pensacola or Corpus as a T-6 IP.

Not sure where you heard the 2-3x flight hour thing. More than half of P8 bubbas don’t fly on their shore tour which means many only fly for 3/8 of their pilot contract years. If you want flight hours go E2s 😉

P-8’s are competitive bc they’ve got arguably the best QOL out of any community

We don’t get the type rating bc it’s not listed as an equivalent to the civilian 737. You can read more here:

Discussion on another forum got me wondering...

Are P-8 pilots still not able to get signed off for the 737 type rating or has that changed?

There’s a United program for military pilots to lock in a job after they separate but that’s a topic for another time. I barely even know what I’m doing the rest of this week
 
I’ve heard anecdotally that around 30% of SNA applicants do not medically qualify at OCS. Has anyone else heard this or have any input?
 
Interesting that you go through MEPS and then get medically disqualified after you’re in that feels weird. Does it say what they get DQ’d for?

I think it depends on the severity of the issue. Anything regarding eyes, is treated pretty seriously; I had friends who got DQ’d from SNA for their eyes even tho they were CFI’s beforehand.

Conversely, if it’s projected to not be a long-term problem, I think it’s less of a concern. I have waivers for some skin and joint stuff, but I’m on meds for both and I’ve made lifestyle changes to mitigate them
