OCS moving to Rhode Island?

As a side note if you like to dive, RI has AWESOME diving. If it was warmer there it would be a top diving destination. So being there for a while might not be that bad of a thing.

With OCS moving to RI in August, does that mean some people will start classes in Pensacola and finish here while other classes begin in RI? Or will they quit starting new classes in Pensacola a few months before the move?

I'm sure they'll stop training to ship entire classes from Pcola to RI midstream. Talk to your recruiter now if you need to request a special meal on the flight up there.

I honestly don't know, but think about the logistical nightmare of moving that many people midstream in that environment. C'mon guys...

Won't the new classes need Candi-Os?

Define "need". I'm sure they could figure out a way to do it without them for at least one class. Barring that, what's the bare minimum they'd need to get the first class through and on their feet.

look man, I'm sure someone, somewhere, of a way higher paygrade has this all worked out. My guess is they aren't going to post their master plan on Airwarriors.

Something else to think about - if they're combining DCOs, OCS, etc, then maybe the DCOs that are already there might have something to do with getting the first class up and running?? it's all speculation until it happens, but...

I know I know. Not another "my recruiter told me" line, but my recruiter assured me I'd be in RI this June. I am not excited about the tail end of my OCS vacation being in a cold fall, but I guess I have to be excited about not having to see the trashy girls of southern Alabama ... err.. Pensacola.

If you go to where your orders say to go, you'll be in the right place. All other concerns in this thread, as far as the candidates go, are irrelevant.

Concur, I would expect that they would do a phased approach, and that even though the headquarters is in Newport, that classes that start prior to the move stay and graduate in P-Cola, and that classes that start after the move start and end in Newport. Just my $.02

I might be wrong but aren't the CWOs, DCOs and LDOs already commissioned before they go to knife & fork school?

I can't see CWO/LDO/DCOs being combined with OCS. The Marine DIs might give them marching classes as part of knife & fork but I doubt they will be calling them numb nuts and PTing them.

A little different, but the Direct Commission "doctors and lawyers and such" got yelled at. At least when I was across the street at NAPS they did. It was pretty wierd seeing someone with O-4 boards getting absolutely belittled by a Chief.
